Here is a frugal tip sent in by a reader:
One of my favourite frugal tips for crafts is to check out thrift stores for knitting and crocheting needles, yarn, fabric, and all kinds of miscellaneous supplies. Many people would like to do more crafts, or try new hobbies, but get “sticker shock” at the price of buying new items to try something out.
Some thrift stores carry little, but some seem to get quite a bit donated – check around. When you find one that seems to stock craft supplies – check regularly.
I also find yard sales are good for partially completed projects or for craft kits that may have been purchased as gifts and never used. You can usually get these for a good price.
For free knitting and crocheting patterns – you can either go to yarn stores like Michaels, where they have some free patterns on tear pads by the yarns, or go to knitting and crocheting websites like Spinrite Yarns and by searching for “free knitting and crocheting patterns” on Google – there are many free patterns online.
