Giant Tiger Canada Coupon Policy

Here is the Giant Tiger Canada coupon policy (I received this response when I asked them some questions about coupon acceptance in their stores):

  • Please note that if it is a valid manufacturers’ coupon with the manufacturer’s information available (i.e includes instructions to retailers, barcode, expiry date etc), we do accept Internet coupons.
  • As for your second question our system is not currently linked to the item and Manufacturer’s coupons are treated as tender. For this reason, the full amount of the coupon would be applied.

Great work Caissie. I like to have a printed copy of a store’s policy when using coupons. However, there is nothing on your printable version showing who this came from. It would be a lot more useful if it showed that the email came from head office or something of the sort. Love your site, keep up the great work.

*PLUS* Giant Tiger is the only store (here in Ottawa anyways)that will actually deduct 3 cents off your cart for each recycling bag you provide them!!!

Linda – I agree that it would be more useful to have a contact, but unfortunetely, nothing was included in the email. I even emailed them back asking for a contact number and just got the same response.

Natalie – Oh wow, I didn’t know that. Great deal!

I didn’t either until I did a big shopping there last week and brought my own bags. I thought I miscalculated my coupons as my bill came in less then expected so I asked the cashier. Indeed just like the US they reimburse the consumer for bringing in their own bags. 3 cents off your cart for each bag! So bring a lot small bags next time you shop there. lol

Haha, ok, lots of small bags, no big bags. 😛

My local GT will not accept coupons on “on-sale” items. Their explanation: the coupons “cannot be combined with any other offer”. I have e-mailed their customer service for more info, but so far, no response. In the meantime, I price match at my local Maxi grocery store.

  7. Cassie Howard

They were wrong. That line simply means that you cannot use more than one coupon on one item.

Treated as tender? They took my 4 $6 aspirin coupons changed the value of their aspirin in the computer from $4.97 to $6. The supervisor(?) said to the cashier to do this so they will get full value of the coupon. I didn’t expect overage but I didn’t expect them to do that. Were they allowed to change the price of their aspirin just for that???

  9. Cassie Howard

Darlene: They should ring in coupons at the full value. I would suggest calling head office if they didn’t do thst for you.

I too went to Giant Tiger to buy something on sale and tried to use a coupon and they refused. Why is it that pretty much every other store will let you use coupons on a sale item but not Giant Tiger. Do you know what there policy is with that?

Just read this! Had no idea that GT took internet coupons or gave you a discount for bringing in your own bag!! I don’t think they charge for plastic bags here (Brantford ON) but might try bringing in my own bag next time! Ziploc Bags should do nicely!! 🙂

Just read this on their site, in their FAQ section:

    Q. What is Giant Tiger’s coupon policy?

    Internet/Manufacturer’s Coupons:
Coupons are accepted only if the store carries the item
Coupons must be presented at the time of purchase
    Canadian coupons only are accepted
The coupon must have Manufacturer’s instructions to the retailer as well as a Canadian remittance address
The item purchased must match the item presented on the coupon, (identical in size, quantity, brand, style etc)
The expiration date must be listed and coupons must be redeemed prior to that date.
Coupons must have a scanable barcode

Number of coupons that can be used for each item:
Only one acceptable coupon may be presented for each item purchased within a transaction
The store reserves the right to limit quantities where multiple coupons are used for multiple purchases of the same item

Free merchandise with a coupon (i.e. BOGO)
No Sales tax is applied on free merchandise

When coupon value exceeds the price of the Item:
If the value of the coupon exceeds the price of the item (including taxes), the excess value of the coupon is applied against the transaction total for all other items purchased (after taxes). Any remaining coupon value after the excess value has been applied against the transaction total for all other items purchases (after taxes), is not paid out as cash.

does giant tiger allow you to price match and use a coupon on that same item.

    • Cassie Howard

Giant Tiger does not allow price matching.

      • Melissa

FYI – not sure if you are aware but I was double checking their coupon policy because I ran into a problem the other day and I saw that Giant Tiger does do price matching. I found the details in their FAQ section. Hope this helps!

I didn’t know, but by going on their website to print the French version and it’s written that they DO price match, oh yeah!! 🙂

GT is not allowing internet printed coupons. They denied my internet printed coupons because it did not have the website address that I had printed from listed. They pulled a different policy out (not posted for customers to see) that does not match their website. When questioned the manager simply said this is the one they go by. Cassie, can you check to see if there is a newer policy than the one on your website?

After sending an email to GT Customer Service regarding the discrepancies, the Regional Manager called me. There are some gaps between what the website says and what their staff are permitted to do. They are trying to close those gaps and are looking into what document they referring to. Turns out it was not the store manager but possibly a head cashier I was dealing with. If anything, I am pleased to see they are trying to close the gap.
