How to make your own magic eraser
I came across a great natural cleaner for walls and thought you might want to share it with your readers.
This stuff works great – just as well as the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser – at a fraction of the cost! It cleans fingerprints, scuffs and even cleaning the grout between floor tiles.
My husband purchased a small bottle of spray grout cleaner from a hardware store for about $18, which we compared it to the baking soda/water paste, and the results were the same!
The chemical cleaner that he purchased said that the floors had to be rinsed several times and to try to use in a ventilated area. Who wants that on their floor – especially if they have small children or pets in their home!
How to do it:
Mix enough baking soda & water to form a paste and then scrub walls clean with a cloth. Wipe the surface with a wet rag to get rid of the baking soda residue.
When I made the paste for the floor, I did so in a small bowl, applied it with a baby spoon, scrubbed with a nail brush and then wiped away with a wet towel. After I finished, I mopped the floor and it looked brand new!
This is by far my most favourite homemade cleaner. It even gets the scuff/paint marks from toys off the walls!

Thanx Jessica,
Will definately give it a try….(kids drawing on the walls with crayons drives me crazy….)
oh wow!! i love magic erasers so i will have to try this
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is still my all time favourite cleaner. I’ve used baking soda to clean, and I prefer the eraser. It’s faster and I think it does a better job. I’ll pay the extra money for the convenience.
Hmmm, I wonder if it works on stainless steel appliances…anyone have any good cleaning tips for those? Non-smelly please! I have heard WD-40 works great, but I don’t allow that to be sprayed in the house!!!
Great tips, thank you! 🙂
@Carrie: OMG formaldehyde?!! Yikes!
Will have to give this a try. I love using the Magic Eraser… and hope that this will work just as well for me.
magic erasers do NOT have formaldehyde in them. that is a myth.
does anyone have any ideas on how to clean a sliding glass shower door? i have scrubbed and scrubbed and had the hardest time trying to get them clean and it still didnt work! please help!!
This worked SO well! Thank you so much! My sons little spiderman action leaves blue and red marks ALL over my walls as he’s flying and scaling them lol. my son drags him all over the walls. it was literally everywhere. took it right off without too much elbow grease! took nail polish scuff marks off the floor my red toes left behind one day. thanks!
I just used this mix to clean tree sap off some furniture — I have tried forever to get the sap off and used bleach finally and just learned to live with dirty looking pleather chair for the past few months — and today!!! I tried this and it looks new again!!! thank you!!!!!
Peroxide excellent on stainless steel
