Metro Canada Coupon Policy

Metro Foods Canada

Here is the Metro Canada coupon policy (I received this response when I asked them about coupon acceptance in their stores):

Unfortunately, due to fraudulent activity with internet coupons, we do not accept coupons that are printed from any other websites, either on-line coupons or e-coupons.

We accept manufacturer coupons issued by Save.ca and webSaver.ca. These coupons are ordered from the website and mailed to the Customer’s home. These coupons are not printed from the internet.

Why did someone have to go out and ruin it for the rest of us!! I would be nice if Web/save would step up and be able to offer more coupons and more often…

Oh and I did have a question after my rant. Where do you get the redplum booklet. Is that an Ottawa thing? I checked the Ottawa Citizen and the Sun last time you told us there should be coupons and I got nada. I will persever! 🙂

Unbelievable! Some people are so rude – they have to spoil it for everyone else! I know someone whose friend photocopied her save.ca coupons… I couldn’t believe it! Some people should be banned from couponing.

With the popularity of couponing getting larger I am sure that more and more companies are going to be clamping down on the use of coupons….

Jen they should be in the prescription saturday citizens, not sure about the ones picked up in store or the sun.

During the 2008 Maple Leafs “printable” fiasco I was a cashier. It was awful. I don’t bother using printables.

Just a little “FYI”… this is the identical email I received from Food Basics when I requested a copy of their coupon policy. Seems like more stores aren’t accepting printables. 🙁

This is interesting since the Metro near my house accepts and has always accepted our printed coupons. I guess it also depends on whether or not the management of the individual store strictly follows the head office policy. (FYI…I’m in the Montreal, QC area)

I tried using my “skinny cow” facebook coupon today, to see if the cashier would accept it. She reconfirmed that Metro does not accept Internet coupons, except for their own. It just means that Metro won’t be getting much business from me!

I send an email to companies who offer Internet coupons and tell them that my store (Metro) don’t accept them and ask for coupons by mail.

I received a lot and often for more than the Internet coupons !!

Some companies asked what was the store name so maybe they will try to have Internet coupons accepted at Metro !

Food Basics and Metro are owned by the same company — so it makes sense that their policies would be similar.
I hope that some effort is put forth ensuring that “scannable” coupons become de rigeur, so as to clamp down on all the scam artists that make the rest of us look bad (while also limiting our coupon use, because stores decide to revise policies, or companies stop offering coupons).
There are many ways to “fix” a coupon so as to save the extra dollar, but that is STEALING and FRAUD. Its worse than shoplifting, because you’re likely also going to get an innocent cashier in a heap of trouble.

Can you tell me what the coupon policy is for Metro Stores which is also Food Basics?
I was shocked last night when the cashier told me that they no longer accept Websaver coupons. I can see that the ones printed on the computer could be a problem and people would reproduce them but the ones mailed to your home are manufacturer’s coupons so not sure what the problem is with them.
I would locve some clarification on this as I am in an awkward position as my sister-in-law is the cashier at our local Food Basics.
    Thanks.

Metro doesn’t price match or accept internet coupons (which most manufacturers would like to issue because it’s lower costs for them). Time to take my business elsewhere.

  12. Patricia

can you stack metro coupons with other coupons?

    • Cassie Howard

      Yes you can, Patricia. 🙂

I am lucky my local Metro takes my printed coupons. I imagine soon they will crack down like all of the others that I shop at, as they are dwindling as to where I can use the internet printed ones. Due to fraudulent behavior of others. So sad that people are photocopying coupons. Ruining it for the rest of us
