I received the following question from a reader:
Just wanted to ask for your input on end of year clearance/blow-outs for barbecues? Do you know where the deals are? I am looking for a good quality brand that isn’t going to break apart after a year or two.
Shopping during clearance events is one of the best ways to save money on barbecues – well, actually, it’s one of the best ways to save on everything!
Stores typically have their “end of year clearance sales” on barbecues from the last week of August, up until the end of October. Of course, you want to be sure to check out the sales as soon as possible for the best selection.
Pretty much any store that sells barbecues will be trying to clear out their stock to make room for next year’s models, so there are always sales on them. A barbecue is something I would never pay full price for.
Things to remember:
| 1) You get what you pay for. |
There are some things you should splurge on, and I believe a barbecue is one of those things. Especially if you love to barbecue all summer long (or longer)! Just because something is cheap, that doesn’t mean it’s the best deal.
When it comes to your barbecue, go for quality. The two best brands are Napoleon and Weber. They are quite expensive (around $500-$1000), but believe me when I say that they are worth the money.
We have used a cheap $150 barbecue and then used an expensive Weber a few weeks later and the difference in our food was incredible. The cheaper barbecue cooked our burgers unevenly, while the Weber barbecue cooked them to perfection.
2) Take care of your barbecue.
If possible, keep your barbecue indoors or in your garage for the winter (unless you don’t mind barbecuing in the snow!). Protecting it from the elements is one of the best ways to ensure it lasts a very long time.
Barbecuing is a great way to easily change up the flavours in your cooking. That smoky flavour is delicious and the freedom to cook outdoors is quite nice as well. Of course, let’s not forget about those grill marks. Grill marks make everything taste better! 😉
If you enjoy making barbecued meals for your family on a regular basis and are on the lookout for a new barbecue, keep the points above in mind. Remember, quality is the most important thing when you’re buying just about anything, and especially when you’re buying something that will see a lot of use. Don’t settle!
Do you have any tips for end of year clearance sales?
