The power of coupons

“What do you do with all of that stuff?”

That’s a question I get asked all the time when I post photos of the deals that I get using coupons.

I do many things with those items:

1. I keep the items for myself and family to use.
2. I donate items to a local shelter or through Freecycle.
3. I donate items to friends and family.

Donating is something I have not done much of in my life because I have just never had the money. Even donating $20 here and there was painful for me because that meant I was giving something else up in my budget (groceries, clothing, entertainment).

Now that I use coupons, I am able to get a ton of stuff for free or very cheap, which means I can actually donate stuff on a regular basis.

I keep whatever I know we can use before it expires and the rest goes in the donation pile. Once the pile fills a certain amount of space, I bring it over to the shelter. They are always so happy to get a donation of any size.

It feels so great to be able to donate. The smiles and thank you’s I receive in return just warm my heart.

So remember the next time you are out if you have a coupon that can yield you a product for free or very cheap, even if you don’t use that particular product – consider getting it anyway and then donating it to someone in need. I promise you will make their day.

Where do you donate your items?

What a great post! Coupons are a great way to get items for super cheap, that can be donated to shelters or food banks. My hubby is helping out at a food bank tomorrow, so I have been buying things that are either on sale really, really cheap, or I have an awesome coupon or FPC for it. I have managed to fill a huge Zellers bag full of food! It’s amazing what you can do with coupons!

When using my coupons and my stock is up I try to buy to donate. We have a bag in the stock room that is for the food bank when it’s full usually by end of the month we take it over. It can be the smallest things that go a long way for someone in need
