Walmart no longer offers a price match
Here is their announcement:
Walmart Canada is discontinuing the Ad Match program in all stores and on Walmart.ca on October 15th, 2020. We continue our commitment to keep our prices low both in store and online.
Here is the previous price match policy:
Walmart Canada Price Match Policy
We’re committed to providing low prices every day. On everything. So if you find a lower advertised price on an identical product, tell us and we’ll match it. Right at the register.
We gladly match the price in the following types of ads:
- Buy one, get one free ads with a specified price
- Example: Buy one for $2.49, get one free (BOGO)
- Competitors’ ads that feature a specific item for a specified price at a specific retailer (Example: $2.99)
- For fresh produce and meat items, when the price is offered in the same unit type (lb. for lb.; each for each)
The following are guidelines and limitations:
- We will match any local competitors’ advertised price
- Items purchased must be identical to the ad (size, quantity, brand, flavor, color, etc.)
We DO NOT match the price in the following types of competitor ads:
- Items that require a separate purchase to get the ad price (example: Buy (item A) to get (item B) for $C)
- Items with no actual price that require a purchase to get free product (example: Buy both (items A & B) to get (item C) for free)
- Items that require a purchase to get a competitors’ gift card (example: Buy (item A) to get a $B gift card)
- Buy one, get one free (BOGO) ads with no actual price given
- Going out of business or closeout prices
- Percentage off (example: “All mascara, 40% off”)
- Competitors’ private label price promotions
We do not honor:
- Ads when the actual price for items cannot be determined
- Internet pricing
- Misprinted ad prices of other retailers
- Competitor ads from outside of the store’s local trade territory

When it says “we do not honour competitor ads from outside of the store’s local trade territory”, what is the radius they are talking about? (ie/ within 10 km of the store)
We go to one that accepts flyers from over 30 kms away. I never bring it to their attn & they’ve honoured them every time for over 2 yrs
I was at walmart last night in Stoney Creek/Hamilton and was informed that there is now only a LIMIT of 6 for price matching. I dont know if its just that store as they had a gentleman come and swipe the shelves clean of all the laundry detergent that was on sale.
I have heard lots of their stores are doing that with price matching and like coupons. Makes sense with all the shelf clearing that happens.. I for one, never get to a store in time for sale items it seems.
It totally makes sense but just caught me off guard because I bought a lot of tuna when on sale price matched, nothing mentioned & this time I go for 10 boxes of Kraft Dinner and she mentioned it. I would never ever clear a shelf of something. Very selfish people out there.
That would be that store’s policy. There are times the store I work at will limit the quantity to 6 on certain things because of a) what it is and b) the price it is at the other store. So if it’s at a really fantastic price, and a product that we may have a problem keeping on the shelves for people who aren’t price matching, then we’ll limit it (and of course, if the store that has it on sale has a limit to quantity that can be bought, we also keep it at that limit when we price match). But majority of things at our store, we will put through as many as they have. It just holds things up since each item has to be done one at a time.
I just bought 8 packages of Cheese Strings at Walmart, that I price matched with the No Frills flyer. Maybe it depends on the specific store, or the cashier you get.
I am wondering what they mean by internet pricing… If I go to say Future Shop and they have a movie for $20 and Walmart has it for $35, will they not match the price? Even if I print it out.
no they wont cause its online… but if u go to amazon and its shipped by amazon and its less expensive than best buy …. best buy will match the price and give u 10% off.. u need to call first to see if its accept (most are) then you order it and then they refund the difference.. after u order thou u must call them back and they will refund the difference i bought big bang theory season 5 on best buy it was 44.99 and 24.99 on amazon (shipped by amazon) and they gave me it 24.99 – 10%
Online matching is hit or miss by store. There won’t be any with Walmart.ca online, since Walmart does not compete with itself. However, the store I work at, if someone can show us an online price that clearly shows the store, the valid period of the price for the product they are showing, etc., we will price match. Showing us, it has to be on their phone, a tablet….not a printed copy (I think printed copies are excluded because of the potential for fraud to be committed since info can be changed on a printout, then copied again with the false info).
Further to this, confirmed now with Walmart Canada that you can price match in a Walmart store with a price if it’s lower listed on the walmart.ca online shopping website. It’s in the U.S. where they won’t price match with their online shopping site because they are not in competition with themselves. Since Canada operates as a separate business identity, what is posted as can/can’t do for price matching, etc. on the U.S. may not apply to Canadian stores.
So no price matching store brand for store brand anymore?

If you have 2 x .50 coupons on an item plus a coupon for buy 2 get 1 free, can you use the 2x.50 coupons to help pay for the first item?
No, it is a limit of 1 coupon per purchase/item.
Will they generally accept Ad Match if I present the advertisement on my phone? anyone had any experience with this? for example, the Source has a camera regularly priced at 84.95 and at Walmart the exact same camera is 99.95, but the Source has that as their every day price so it wouldn’t be in the flyer so I have nothing to present to them? think they might cut me a break maybe?
Does the price match have to be a current flyer or just a flyer? I brought a flyer that was from the beginning of January, because on the price match policy there’s no indication as to if the flyer has to be current for the price matching. The cashier declined to do the price match… Let me know!

Hi I have the App on my Iphone for FlyerFlo can I use that for the admatch? They are showing current flyers but they are just on my phone.

I always price match with Walmart. I have always brought in my flyers. Will they accept a printed flyer for the current week or originals only?
Question…will WM match price on flyer pages printed from a computer printer, or do they have to be actual store flyers? By way of example, there is a No Frills ~ 20 km’s from our local WM store, but because I’m on the other side – ~ 40 km away – I don’t get their flyers. So I’d like to be able to print off the hot priced items and use for price match. Think it should be ok – legit competitors pricing on a current flyer within 30 km’s of the store – but wondering if you’ve encountered same, and what the response was?
Walmart will price match ANY store in Canada, excluding warehouse and wholesale price, and they do accept printed flyers (confirmed in Ontario only).
The policy says local competitor. What does local mean?
They recently changed their policy to nation wide ad matching. It used to just be flyers that you would get for your town.

What do you mean WM in Ontario accepts Ads nation wide then just local. Does that mean I can show them an Ad from P.E.I and they will price match for me if I’m in Ontario?
It appears that some Walmart’s are now not allowing matching with specific stores, such as Giant Tiger. I was advised this in a store in London, ON last night.
What is Walmarts policy on advertised sale items? Purex 64 load is on sale this week with the ad showing a picture of the blue bottles but the ad does not specify select varieties so can I get the green Purex 64 load bottles even though they are not pictured?
Hi.. This may be a silly question. I’m not sure if this is considered price matching or not… But will walmart price match themselves? If I wanted to buy a treadmill in Canada will they price match a treadmill that they have in the states? It’s the same treadmill but $100 cheaper in the states then in Canada. For example.. In Niagara Falls buffalo New York it’s $100 cheaper then a walmart in Hamilton ontario. Thanks!:)

You cannot price match B1G1 sales.
I just attempted to purchase a television from Walmart.ca and asked them to ad match with a Canadian competitor who has advertised the tv for $850 in-store only. Walmart refused to match since the competitor’s deal is only in-store.
This makes no sense since Walmart does not honor online pricing, so if they also refuse to honor in-store pricing, there is nothing left to honor!
I live on Prince Edward Island if I see a flyer in BC and the item is on sale there the wal mart on PEI will price match that item? I just notice in the Wal mart rules it says they will only price match any local competitors price what does that mean. BC is not local to PEI thank you so much.
At Walmart, will they accept price matches from online flyers that are presented on a cell phone for example? Apps like Flipp are great but it would be better if they would accept those price matches!! Thanks!

Walmart by Rexdale and Islington would not price match my product because they were selling there product for 49$ and I got it somewhere else for 22$ and both managers said that they can they would be loosing too much money I shop there all the time but this time they lost a customer because they advertise false advertisment and don’t live up to what they say…….
Today I tried to price match at wm and was told I couldn’t do this. Farmboy had boneless/skinless chicken on for $3.99/lb. I had picked up their chicken, without a name. They are all portioned/charge $10 each. Other cashiers have done previously so would like to know what should apply here. tyia!
I was just turned away at the Prince Albert, SK store after a request to price match a juicing appliances. The exact same item was offered, in store, at the nearest Costco in saskatoon, in which we frequent.
The argument was made that even though this is the nearest Costco, they would not match, indicating that it was not local……
Unfortunately, after our in store discussion, I left the store without the juicer…. I will be attending to Costco to retrieve this appliance.
Walmart price match the local flyers, it does not cover all the stores across canada.
Has anyone noticed if they’ve ‘officially’ changed their policy regarding apps like FLIPP? My local store recently hasn’t even been interested in seeing my flyers (I had them with me) once I pulled my Flipp app & rhymed my prices off from there. But I don’t wanna “assume” I can avoid grabbing the flyer package yet! I’d love to save a few trees though. Wally’s Price Matching is the only reason I get physical flyers still…
Absolutely yes! I’ve been using the Flipp app for well over a year, never need to touch a printed flyer. You can view grocery store flyers online on any browser and just show the cashier on your phone and, as long as it’s clear, shows the dates and prices, it will be matched.
They do, I have used the Flipp App many times at the Walmart register.

What is the km ratio for local? There has to be a limit. I want to know what is. We need a guideline for local.
I’m wondering why a customer can just “rhyme” off prices of items to a cashier without the not even double checking the items? Could this open up doors for anyone just rhyming off whatever prices they want and the cashier takes their word for it?? Crazy.

I didn’t read all the posts here in detail. The walmart I go to has a list of stores that they will price match. Flipp is great but I might have to find a way to set it so it doesn’t give me a store I can’t use.
had 10 boxes of breton original breton crackers and told we could only price match 6. so put the rest back. even though there was no limited amount on flyer of those crackers. then she charged for an extra one which i noticed when i got home.

it did not mention the situation I have just experienced today, their refusal to price match for me.
5 days ago, August 12th, 2019, I purchased from Walmart their SodaStream Icy Blue appliance for C$119.99
This week London Drugs came out on their flyer the same model IcyBlue for C$99.99
sale started on August 16th – 28th.
Walmart’s customer service woman will not match the price reason given is because I bought it before the sale starts.
This doesn’t make sense to me as I can return the item to Walmart and buy from London Drugs cheaper price. Walmart will lose a sale.

I was informed that Walmart (in-store) will not price match Walmart (online). I wanted to purchase an item that was advertised at $29.99 on walmart.ca and $89.99 at Walmart in-store. They said they don’t price match their own website. Weird. Has anyone else run into this?
I bought a pressure washer from Walmart online, and then asked for a price match. Walmart reply to my request was that this is a 3rd party product sold by Walmart. So they couldn’t price match it, and I have to ask the original supplier!!! This is too stupid. I thought Walmart is not like Ebay or Amazon, and you deal with Walmart, not their vendors!!!
