Stain removal guide – 13 stains & how to remove them

How to remove stains.

Don’t you hate it when you get stains on your clothing? I always used to think that when there was a stain, the article of clothing was then trash. There was no way to fix it, so into the trash can it went.

If I would have done my research, I would have seen that there are actually ways to remove those stubborn stains – and most of them are pretty easy.

Below is a list of 13 stains and how to remove them.

Baby oil

Apply a diluted dishwashing soap solution to the stain and let stand for several minutes, then wash in your washing machine with hot water.

Grease

Saturate stain with a diluted dishwashing soap solution (Dawn is best) and gently work into the stain. Rinse with white vinegar to remove all of the detergent and then launder as usual.

Blood

Apply a diluted dishwashing soap solution to the stain and let stand for several minutes. Rinse in warm (not hot) water.

Grass

Pre-treat the stain with warm water and white vinegar. Rub the mixture directly on the stain and then launder as usual.

Red wine

Treat with a diluted dishwashing soap solution and lightly rub stain with a toothbrush. Rinse with water, apply white vinegar and rub again. Let stand several minutes and then rinse with water. If the stain still persists, apply hydrogen peroxide and let stand.

Coffee or tea

Rinse area with lemon juice or white vinegar.

Chocolate

Simply spray with a diluted dishwashing detergent solution.

Lipstick

Pre-treat the stain with a spot stain remover.

Wax or gum

Freeze item and then peel off the wax or gum once hardened. If a residue remains, place the stain between white blotters (such as clean towels) and press with a warm iron until the soiled area disappears.

Soy sauce

Treat with a diluted dishwashing soap solution and lightly rub stain with a toothbrush. Rinse with water, apply white vinegar and rub again. Let stand several minutes and then rinse with water. If the stain still persists, apply hydrogen peroxide and let stand.

Ballpoint ink

Place a rag under the stain and then saturate the stain with an alcohol-based hairspray. Blot the stain with another rag until it no longer exists. Warning: Some fabrics may be damaged, so test in an inconspicuous area first.

Urine

Use equal parts white vinegar and warm water and soak the stain for about 15 minutes, then launder as usual.

Mud

Scrape off residue, pre-treat with a diluted dishwashing soap solution and soak. Launder as usual.
