Don’t Fall for This Amazon Payments Car Scam
Many people are paying for items online, and it’s becoming more common to even make large payments for items like cars and vacations. Unfortunately, there are phishing scams out there that make you think you’re paying through services like Amazon Payments or PayPal, but you’re really sending your money to a fake site and are unlikely to ever see that money again. Here’s how I almost got taken by an Amazon Payments scam.
Shopping for a car on Kijiji
A few years ago we were on the hunt for a used car since the transmission blew up on one of our cars. We came across a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse LT for only $11,000. Based on some limited research, this was clearly an excellent deal because most 2010 Traverse’s were going for $18,000 to $25,000 at the time. As much as I was intrigued, my spider senses went up but I still sent an email to inquire about more information anyway.
I got a reply from a Mr. William Garcia:
This vehicle has absolutely no mechanical problem, the exterior has no scratches, rust or dents and the interior is like new, no accidents.
The price includes shipping and handling . I am selling it because I’ve relocated in Europe and it is too expensive to import it here. It is still in Canada at a warehouse in Whitehorse YT ready to be delivered to its buyer with all the documents.
Because I am not able to close the deal myself, I want to use a third party to handle the sale. This way we are both protected.
Let me know if you’re interested and if you have questions.
After asking a few more questions, here’s the next email I got:
The mileage is correct. Let me explain how everything works:
I want to use as a third party Amazon Payments (visit their website Amazon Payments). You will have to make the payment to Amazon Payments. The shipping will be started in 24 hours after your payment is confirmed. The vehicle will be delivered in 3 or 4 days. From the moment it arrives at your door, you will have 5 days to test and inspect it. If it doesn’t match my description or if you find anything wrong with it, Amazon Payments will refund your money is 3 working days and I will be in charge of the return shipping fee. They will hold the money until you confirm that the vehicle is as expected.
This way we are both protected. I am sure that you have the funds to buy it and you can verify that the vehicle is as advertised knowing that a 3rd party has the payment secured.
In order to start the transaction, please go on Amazon Payments and register, once you do that,
Amazon Payments will send you the invoice with all the payment and shipping details.
Thank you,
When I clicked on the link, here’s a screen shot of the site:
Signs of an Amazon Payments phishing scam
The site above looks pretty legitimate but the url was a little strange:
http://rogersups.comcastbiz.net/Amazon-Payments-Online-Transactions/index.html
Nowhere in the URL does it say amazon.com. I decided to play along and put in some information. Here’s the email invoice I got:
Looks pretty legitimate but here’s some concerns:
If you look at the email address of the sender, it does not come from Amazon.com
Also if you look at the screen shot below, the banking information is what really should be a concern:
I asked William who Jose Orejon Perez was and he relied he was the person chosen by Amazon to supervise the transaction. I then googled “Amazon Payment Scam” and found this scam
I found stuff dating back to 2005. It’s been a while since I have shopped for a car.
I went back to Kijiji to get a screenshot of the ad but they had taken it down already.
The internet can be very powerful but it can also be a scary place. Predators like these have taken advantage of people for a long time and will continue to do so. Here are some of the warning signs:
Watch for fake Amazon Payments sites
Over at Amazon, they have posted some good information on spotting scammers.
Genuine Amazon Payments websites are always hosted on one of the following domains:
Sometimes the link included in spoofed e-mails looks like a genuine Amazon Payments address. You can check where it actually points to by hovering your mouse over the link–the actual website where it points to will be shown in the status bar at the bottom of your browser window or as a pop-up.
We never use a web address hosted on a domain other than the ones listed above. For instance, variant domains such as “http://security-payments-amazon.com/. . .” or an IP address (string of numbers) followed by directories such as “http://123.456.789.123/payments.amazon.com/. . .” are not valid Amazon Payments websites.
Here are a few of the known fake amazon payments sites. There will certainly be others, but this will give you an idea of what to watch out for:
- http://amazonpayments-used-vehicles.com
- http://amazon-vehicle-transactions.com

It’s scary how good some of these scam artists are. I guess my guard came up early because of the old saying “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.” Be careful; be smart; and be skeptical!

thanks, Jim…this guy almost caught me with his used car scam…i went through exact same process you described…your information helped me to realize that i was about to be scammed…thanks again..
Adam
Thanks Jim ,
Almost got caught in the same trap with a camping trailer. My wife did not feel good about the transaction method and after I looked into it, I came across your blog. The response I got was almost word for word what you received for your car, but I was trying to purchase a trailer. Just another lesson. Sounded too good, and it was. I can’t believe how close the wording of emails were to the ones you have reported .
Same here!!
Thank you for your post!
Almost got into a situation just like that just now!!! I was not aware Amazon sold cars let alone assisted in the transport of the vehicle so I Googled it and fortunately came across your post. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I am so glad I seen this. Chills went down my spine as I was reading the message about the scamming. It’s crazy how the message that was sent was the same one I got just different names. But it was almost word for word. Thank to the person that posted this. It definitely helped me.
I’m a senior citizen and I found the best deal ever on a mini excavator supposedly in Regina Sask., all the same words exactly as what you have described and they would only accept a wire transfere. I paid the $10,000.00 and it and my pride were both gone. The money also went to spain where my bank tried to retrieve it for me but the madrid bank account was altready emptied out. RCMP said they can’t help either. It has changed my retirement plans considerably.
Hey thank you I was about to send 2000$ for a 2003 rv.but after reading your site I had 2nd thoughts.is there anywayvanyway to get these guys back and maybe send them to jail
Wow People just don’t quit. Toyota Avalon 2011 $2200. Said the car belonged to her father that passed away and there are too many memories to keep it.blah blah blah figured this was a scam. Oh yeah she was in the military also in Kansas.
This sounds exactly like the car I was asking about only it was 2008 Honda Civic for 1400.00 said the same thing husband died only month ago moved in with family in Kansas ! I knew something wasn’t right , she used a Facebook persons profile that’s close to where I live , but the email she sent me was from
a whole different person , glad I read your post
Very similar dialogue, daughter died of cancer, too painful to hold on to the car. Too good to be true offer, 2008 Honda Accord for only $1000. Claims to be unable to make transaction because she’s deployed. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this article. They claimed they are a woman in the military being deployed and again it didn’t come from the same address but still not amazon, [email protected]. And all the same signs
glad this is on here.i was sure it was legit. same story about the military. supposed to be on base in Kansas.free shipping the nine yards.
Same here, military member that was deployed. How there they use military titles to get the trust of people. Being a retired Sailor that really ticks me off, distracting our uniform like that. Very shameful. Who every posted this forum, thank you very much. I would have made a very big mistake.
Bill
I just got the same scam but different story. Her husband recently died and she moved in with family. The car is in Kansas, in a warehouse, with free shipping. No bank info though. Has to be paid for using Amazon cards. Free delivery to Florida in 3-5 days with a 5 day inspection/return period, for 1/4 of the book value lol.
I almost fell for this exact same email, word for word. However, something didn’t seem right (remembering) on the news a little about the way she said her husband died in the military etc., asked my dad (retired military)and I am still amazed at how people can attack our soldiers! My blood boils…. so I go back email her…ask a few more questions and attach an article of the so called incident and no response and car no where to be found to Craigslist. Crazy! Be cautious and I guess I’ll go with the saying, ‘Buy and shake hands with the person in front of you’.
That’s the same exact story I got! Thankfully, and sadly, I thought of that old adage, as well, “if it’s too good to be true…” and did some research, which brought me to this article.
I literally just had the exact same thing happen today over a 2004 jeep. Same story and everything. I didn’t fall for it.
I got the same exact story as Joey today on a truck. To be paid in Amazon Cards and she moved to Kansas.
That same women in Lawrence Kansas is trying to scam me
I talked to the same lady in Kansas who said her husband had recently died of a heart attack. I am thankful for this information and intuition!
Same story of a 2009 Suburban floating around. Husband died, moved in with parents in Lawrence, KS. Vehicle ready to ship..blah..blah.
I just dealt with the same perso n whose husband died and they
Moved in with family in Kansas.
Too good to be true.
my husband was almost hooked by this person as well same storyhusband died moved to Kansas. I told him to good to be true googled it andthis was the first thing I saw. sad people are so evil!!
Was her name Connie?
The old saying, “If it’s too good to be true, then it probably is”!! Let’s all remember that? I got the same story of a lady named Connie whose husband died recently so she and her daughter moved in with her parents in KS. There were many red flags but come on!!! Using Amazon cards to purchase the car is crazy, then they want you to purchase the cards with CASH, another red flag, etc. This person’s name was Connie. I even offered condolences for her since she lost her husband recently. I mentioned that I would like to speak with her on the phone and her reply was, she was “hearing impaired” and preferred email. Everyone out there beware……….go with that decernment that the good LORD gives us, that still small voice that says this is not of me. I praise GOD that I didn’t lose my $2500 to these scammers. They need prayer and JESUS!
I just got the same story – husband died 2 months ago, the car brings bad memories, just want to get rid of it asap. It’s at a amazon warehouse in Topeka. Shipping will be free, I have 5 days to decide if I want the car…. but she says my money won’t leave my possession until I’ve received and accepted the car.
Yep, same here… Husband died… she moved to Kansas… free shipping to California… thanks for the heads-up!
OMG!! I am literally emailing this same scammer at this very moment! I just asked if they know Jose Orejon Perez(scammer in the above story) and they said yes, he is related to us…WOW, I could never do this to people. How dare these People. I wish there was some way to catch these creeps!
That one is still out there operating… exact same details. Has to be paid with Amazon cards. Not available to view.
This just happened to me omg , with an Acura MDX the lady said the same exact thing and I was about to fall for it thank god I found this!
Lolol I just got this same one
This literally just happen to me, same story and everything !!
Acura MDX lady is using eBay now
Wow Cind brown got me and my husband for a jeep that was 1000. No shipping fees . she gpt is fpr our money. What do we do in prder to get it all back.
I got that same info you got about a woman being in the military. A 2003 honda for 2200 smh
same lady claiming she was in the military just ripped me off. i was too hasty. i was trying to buy an atv for $1800 and then i got a follow up email stating i my shipment was stuck and i needed to send an additional 1500 to insure the vehicle. At that point i became suspicious. I decided to call a different amazon number (and not the one listed in the email the scammers sent. They told me it was a scam. I also google amazon payments scam and discovered i had make a $1800 mistake.
i also was scammed out of $ 3800 for the same atv and was told there is no way to trace the scammers
Same lady here in NC. 2008 Honda Accord, 65k miles, $2500 lol. “immaculate condition”
Said he husband died 4 months ago and she is sad she has to sell it, but she is leaving for military duty soon. Went on in another email to say:
“I figured a fresh start would do me good, so I packed up and moved to my home town in Havelock/NC,with my job. Before leaving I had prearranged the deal with Amazon so my presence isn’t necessary.
The deal is handled by Amazon and the car is stored with all the paperwork in Amazon warehouse, sealed and ready for delivery. The shipping it’s offered by Amazon to me so there will be no cost from your side. In addition, you will have 7 days to try out prior to making any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don’t like about it, hidden defects or anything else different from what I described you can send it back on my expense but I assure you that is not going to happen since my Accord is in immaculate condition inside and out. I want to make it very clear, I won’t be receiving a single dollar unless you inspect the car.
If you are ready to buy it and you have the cash available, please reply with your Full Name , Address and Phone #. Once I got all the details, I will forward them to Amazon and they will process my order. After, they’ll email you with all the information that you need to complete this deal and also confirm that the transaction is conducted through them and I’m a legitimate seller.”
lol ooookay.
I am now playing along and wasting this person’s time so that they have less time to scam other people. I won’t give them any information, but this is good procrastination!
I got the very same email about a Jeep. I let them know I wasn’t an idiot and they should get a job and work for money rather than scamming others out of theirs. Received no answer!
I got a similar e-mail about a MacBook Pro, from someone I contacted on Kijiji. My scam senses went up immediately, so I Googled “Fulfilled by Amazon scam” and found this page. In retrospect, even her first e-mail reeks of a scam, which is part of why I became wary.
exact same word for word for us with a pop up camper, now I’m just dragging it out to see how long I can keep them on the hook
Jah from philly almost got me too ,She said her husband died in the military over in Afghanistan, And she just wanted too sale the car because of the memories attached to it ,And she moved in with her parents because she was in financial trouble, That’s when my eyebrow went up ,Having come from a military family, I know your worth more too them dead then alive, Sorry too say ,but it’s true and the benefits one receives after a love one passes away while active are great enough too live a very comfortable life ,So that was my red flag and then I started too do some investigations ,And found your site,Thank you so much for your insight and testimonials ,This really did help me and now I hope I have helped someone else . TRUST that feeling you get ,When something doesn’t seem right and you’ll thank your inner God later ,Take care ,Stay safe and god bless
Too bad peoples r this evil. Good idea to keep them busy but you can’t keep them busy enough. It is spelled evil, or clearer yet SIN
I was almost caught be the same lady. Her husband had died from a heart attack a month ago & she was selling her home and a 2008 Honda Accord fully loaded with 85,807 miles. I’m a single mother and looking for a car for my son who is a senior. It was one of those deals where if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
I got the same one about a boat
Thanks to you I didn’t get scammed on a golf cart from a Lt. Alice Walker claiming to be in the Air Force and getting ready to deploy. All the wording was the same. These people are just evil,no conscience.
Not to be prejudice but most of these people are foreign and usually trip up on grammar or spelling. It is easy however when your looking for that “Great deal”.
Thanks once again.
I almost fell for it !!! I saw a 2011 Chevy transverse for only 2,700 and they claimed they were a lady in the military being deployed. I’m so glad I saw this article.
Wow..wow..wow..I’m thankful and my money wasn’t available because I was ready to send it too to someone who had a daughter who died of cancerand deployed in the military. I too a prior Sailor. This scammers are disgusting!!! Thank God I came across this article.
We almost got scammed looking to buy a tractor. Called Amazon and they verified it was a scam. Marion P.
What exactly did you explain to amazon for them to be able to inform you if it was a scam or not
I was wandering if you asked them to hold the car for you would they have.
Same here for a 1986 Porsche 911… seller asking $3000 for a car that usually cost around $30000. But I played along and giving them the run around.. I am still playing along to discourage those predators

Hello again,
As I mentioned before, I recently divorced and now I’m here in Billings, Montana staying with my parents. The 911 is already at the Amazon Payments warehouse here in Billings and the transaction will be done through them. Amazon Payments will handle the shipping, the payment and the paper exchange. The car is already sealed and ready to be delivered to your place in 3-4 days. You will have free delivery and 7 days to test and inspect the Porsche before I receive any money.
If you want to move forward, please reply with your full name, shipping address and the best phone # where you can be reached. I will forward your details to Amazon Payments and they will contact you with all the info on how to purchase it.
I literally just fell for this about a 2008 nissan. Same deal about a woman being deployed etc. I sent my name, address, and phone number- but obviously nothing about bank information etc. Because once I sent it, I thought, this is messed up. Exact same thing I got, was what your last paragraph says. Should I be worried that I gave my name, address, and number? Obviously, it is easy to find people’s names, addresses, and numbers via online etc. But should I be concerned? Didn’t give any bank info or anything like that, it was essentially just the first email they had sent me. When I figured it out, I sent one back saying, nice job- you tried to scam a federal agent!
My situation is the same sold as if it were in Buffalo. Inquired about it- stated just divorced and cheated on with 2 kids. Vehicle is in Topeka Kansas. As she now lives with her parents. Was ex’s car and she is selling. 2007 Tahoe for 2300.00. Only going through Amazon payments- free shipping and all the rest what a bummer. Glad I googled this. Heads up people!! If it looks too good to be true- it is.
Hi,
Thank you for your interest. I’m selling my 2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6 with 87,000 miles on the odometer. This car is since new, and it’s ready for a new home. I am selling the car with a clean title, with owner’s manual, three keys, and two key fobs. It’s always being in a garaged and barely driven. It drives like a dream. The automatic transmission shifts very smoothly between gears and feels very strong. The engine’s very quiet and smooth. This has been a pet free, smoke-free. It has only been driven by a professional adult. The paint shines like new and looks perfect. This car has always been serviced by the dealer. I know the price $1,000 is way under the market’s value! I lost my spouse the Xmas before last to lung cancer that has metastasized to his bones and finally the brain. There’s nothing that anyone can really say to magically make you stop feeling alone or suddenly stop grieving. I loved him so much, and the car brings me only bad memories, when I see it I feel more pain in my heart, now I want to sell it as soon as possible. I’m a flight attendant at American Airlines originally from California, after this nightmare I decided to sell my house from San Clemente, CA and I moved with my 2 kids in Hamilton, Montana, where my parents live.
Please be free to look at the pictures here: My Album on Shutterfly
I’m not interested if you want to buy with payments or you don’t have the total amount or you need financing, I am tired of these people without interest.
Just let me know if you are interested in buying it or if you have any questions and I will get back to you asap.
With respect,
Natasha Walker
Hi again,
I explained in my first email, I moved to my parents in, Montana, because they can take care of my kids because my work requires flying a lot of time more than 10 hours. I was using about 3 weeks ago Amazon Logistics Worldwide to sell my camper and everything was fine and now they gave me a voucher, shipping free for another time with them, so, you don’t pay for the shipping! The vehicle with all the papers are now to the shipping company Amazon Logistics Worldwide, located in Billings, Montana, and is ready to be delivered to the new owner. I want to use their escrow and transport services as they offer 100% protection and insurance to buyers and sellers, I already use them, and I was pleased. The sale is strictly run according to the rules and regulations of the Federal Government. Governed by the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (Civil Code Section 1633 ET. Seq.) governing Escrow Regulations.
You will submit the payment to the company, they will confirm the payment, and you will get the tracking number, the vehicle should be at your door within 3 or 4 days with all the necessary papers (clear title, bill of sale signed by me, user’s manual, insurance, etc.). The best part is that you have five days to try it out prior to making any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don’t like, you can send it back without any expense. They hold your money safe until you confirm that this vehicle is what you have been expected and you want to buy it. It is not a sight unseen deal. On the other hand, I can ship my vehicle knowing they have your money and you won’t “disappear” with my vehicle. We are both covered. If you are interested in knowing more info about how it works, you can reply with your whole name, full shipping address and phone # so I can notify them that you are selected as the buyer, and they will contact you right away with all the details, with no obligation to buy it.
God bless you.
OMG!! I got this word 4 word!! I did send my address and phone number but I’m not worried about that. This is disgusting!
My scammer said she — Monica Harris — was located in Cavalier, ND USA and was shipping out to South Korea June 12. She was selling “her” 2009 Toyota Rav4 for $2720 with “Just Reduced” in the title on craigslist. But when she wrote me back, she was talking about Amazon which sent up the 1st red flag. I asked her for the VIN # and she sent it to me almost immediately. When I checked, the SUV is registered to someone in Michigan, not too far from North Dakota, really. Anyway, after researching, I found this blog — thank you, Jim! — and the rest is history, per se. Here is her reply to my initial expression of interest:
Hello,
My 2009 Toyota RAV4 is still for sale. It has 73k miles, automatic, no accident, clear title. The price was reduced at $2.750 as I need to sell it before June 12th, when I’ll be leaving with my unit Brigade Combat Team back to South Korea replacing the troops scheduled to come home. The deal includes free delivery as you may know we can ship a car/bike/etc from home to the base and back one time in a year for free. The vehicle will arrive at your address in 2 days so my presence it’s not necessary cause I have everything arranged with Amazon. You will have 5 days testing period before I receive any money and if by any reason you find something you don’t like about, you can send it back on my expense and you will receive a full refund of your money. It is located in Cavalier, ND.
If you’re interested in purchasing it, all I need from you is your full name, phone# and shipping address and Amazon will contact you shortly after I forward them your contact details.

Have a blessed day!
That “Have a blessed day!” was the 2nd flag, as it’s the same verbiage used by the rental scammers, which I also didn’t fall for, thankfully (a few years ago).
Thank you, Look out for a Holly J Clark. I found a Jeep for sale on FB, and they had the same add from different cities. Then they told me to email their mother, who responded that her husband died and she moved to Kansas. Then she told me to pay through Amazon, which was the same deal as above. Thank you so much
I just responded to a 2003 Chevy Tahoe on the Facebook Market place. When I sent the message to an Ashley Kirk she responded she was at work and needed my email address. A day later a Sharon R Bryant emailed me inside photos of this Tahoe and gave me the sap story of her husband had died (1month ago) and her and her daughter moved in with her parents in KS as well and wanted me to pay through Amazon Services. I also sent her an email back gave all of Facebook the email that it came from and told them to have fun messaging Sharon. Then I sent the Ashley Kirk a message on Facebook asking if she posted a vehicle. Still have yet to hear from her but she’s located in Keyser WV and this is where the vehicle was supposed to be located as well. So the email address came from [email protected]
As I told everyone else enjoy sending Sharon lovely messages ?
OMG !!! I got the same story from fb and the girls name was Jessica !!
I only came to this site after a suspicious incident.. sale of a Jeep Wrangler.. supposedly on sale in NYC. Same story about widowed Mom, vehicle packed and sent to Kansas. Only method of payment was through Amazon. I see Amazon complicit in these scams and should be responsible for any funds lost through their transfer system. Maybe it’s time they do away with their anonymity method of payment. But, I’m sure their business sense of profit will override their concern over anyone caught up in a fraud they’ve assisted in. These people are not only violating state laws, but federal as well, since they are operating in one location, but catfishing folks coast to coast. Where are the proceeds from Amazon being routed to? Every financial institution has a routing number… the greenbacks have to be ending up somewhere. If these folks are really in Kansas, it ain’t that far to Leavenworth1
They claim Amazon but its a fake payment page that looks like Amazon but instead does a transfer to another bank in another country. Amazon is not involved in any way. They are just using the name to give the story credibility.
This is really interesting, You’re a very skilled blogger. I have joined your rss feed and stay up for in search of more of your excellent post. Also, I’ve
shared your website in my social networks
yep i got one today for an infinity for 1500..a sob story and send payment to thi amazon payment. i new right off it was a scam. first why sell a car like that thousands of dollars.below market value, then seller wants to pay expensive shipping ..pease shipping is more than the asking price for the car. it made no sense to me
Thanks for this blog. I received the exact same wording from this prick. He should be hung by his testicles.
Thanks
A co-worker of mine was also targeted by this scammer. His rogersups.comcastbiz.net domain is now de-registered and he’s probably moved his phishing site to another domain. Stay vigilant!

HERE IS HIS SECOND EMAIL TO ME:
Hi Andy,
My wife and I are happy to have found a buyer for our vehicle so soon. If you are not able to travel to Terrace, BC in the next 3 or 4 days to test and inspect the vehicle, since I can only hold the vehicle for you that long. I prefer to use a third party company like Amazon Payments that will hold the funds in their trust account until you receive and inspect the vehicle. The shipping will be handled by my and will be started in 24 hours after your payment is confirmed.
The shipping will take from 3 to 5 days to arrive at your door depending on your location and from the moment it arrives you will have 5 days to test drive and inspect the vehicle. If it doesn’t match my description or if you find anything wrong with it (but it won’t be the case since is in flawless condition), Amazon Payment will refund your payment and I will be in charge of the returning fee. Once you have the vehicle inspected you need to contact Amazon to redirect the payment to me. Using Amazon we are both protected, you will have the payment secured by them.
Giving the nature of this transaction please note that my sale terms are final and nonnegotiable. If you are ready to purchase the vehicle please forward me your phone number so we can discuss final details.

Amazon Payments Guiding Buyers and Sellers Safely Through the Online Escrow Process
How does it work?
Step 1: Buyer and Seller Agree to Terms
After registering, both parties agree to terms of the transaction, which includes a description of the merchandise, sale price, number of days for the Buyer’s inspection, and any shipping information.
The Seller signs in to Amazon Payments and creates a transaction.
The initiating party defines the terms of the transaction and provides information about the merchandise.
This information includes:
E-mail address of the other party, full name and shipping address
Length of inspection period
Delivery options will be under the seller responsibility
Shipping costs will be payed by the seller
The buyer is notified by e-mail with the payment invoice and will be asked to submit payment to Amazon Payments.
Step 2: Buyer Pays Amazon Payments
The Buyer submits their payment to the Amazon Payments trust account provided in the payment invoice. When payment is received, it will be verified and secured into a non-interest bearing trust account. After payment is secured, the Seller is notified by Amazon Payments to ship the vehicle to the Buyer.
Step 3: Seller Ships Vehicle to Buyer
The Seller ships the merchandise to the Buyer’s address listed in the payment invoice. The Seller ships the merchandise and insures the item for the full value. The Seller must pays for the shipment of the merchandise. After the Seller has shipped the merchandise, they must provide the tracking information. The inspection period will not begin until Amazon Payments has confirmed delivery of the merchandise.
Step 4: Buyer Accepts the Vehicle
When the Buyer accepts the merchandise or the inspection period expires, the disbursement of payment will begin. Payment is sent to the Seller.
Step 5: Amazon Pays the Seller
Upon the merchandise being accepted, Amazon Payments verifies the transaction information and releases funds per the Seller’s instruction.
Thank you again for shopping with us.
Amazon Payments
I phoned Amazon to confirm this information and they told me it was a SCAM. They don’t even offer this kind of third party payment plan.
I am glad I did some research and saved myself $16,000.
If it seems too good to be true. Well it is not true.
Andy
I’m dealing with one of these scammers now for a Landcruiser $14500. I smelt a rat when the location of the car changed from Queensland to Western Australia and he’s in the military about to go to the UK. This is his email address if anyone knows how to catch him… Kevin Grant Below is his story
Hello again,
As I told you in my previous e-mail at this moment I am in a military base, RAAF Base Pearce, WA getting ready for Benson UK, and I have the car with me.
This mean that I do a special training program. I am not allowed to get out of the unit or have visitors.
I can ship the car to you without problems using army transport and logistic system. You will receive the car along with all the documents. As for the payment I can start a transaction through Amazon Payments.
All I need is your full name and address so i can contact them and after that they will contact you regarding this purchase. They act as a third party and will protect both of us in this transaction.
You’ll make the payment into an Amazon managed trust fund!
After that, i send it over( the car will be delivered with the title, owner’s manual, service records, and of course the bill of sale authorized and signed by me)
You will have 5 days inspection period on it from the day you’ll receive the car, you can inspect it, take it to a mechanic to check it out, ride it and then if you decided to keep it, you’ll confirm to Amazon the sale. If by any reason, you will not be satisfied with the car ( even though I can assure you that it is exactly as described, in excellent condition), you can return it at my expense for a full refund of your money, no hidden or extra cost for you.
So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see it before committing to buy and to eliminate any concerns you will have 5 days to inspect it.
I think this is more than fair for both of us.
I tried to explain as best I can but if you have further questions do not hesitate to contact me.
I will wait your details (full name and shipping address) if we have a deal.
Best Regards,
Kevin Grant [email protected]
Wow…..how many people say, “Hello again”? Not many! Thanks for saving me $1000
Andy, too bad you didn’t catch the incorrect grammar and spelling from a so-called doctor. That’s a huge tip off. My father-in-law just got scammed. Wish he had shown me so I could determine that it was a scam. 🙁
I am looking for anyone that may know anyone that has fallen victim to the Amazon car scam.I am looking to start a Class Action Lawsuit against Amazon. They are aware of the scam and have done nothing to notify loyal customers on the website or even in writing. Please pass the word around thousands of people have been scammed out of so much money and they don’t care about their consumers…..Repost and let others know.
hello Elisha, i did not get scammed by amazon, but my Google check out so i know how you feel! Let me know how it goes with that law suit maybe i will take one up with Google checkout now known as Google wallet.
Good Luck
Kimberly
Hi, Elisha. Dumb me, fell for the scam. Luckily, the Money Gram Agencies noticed the “payment agency/ Amazon Payment” and flagged the transaction before it went through. They contacted me within minutes of my purchasing the money gram and refunded my money.
Thank God for that!!!
Yes it looks like I got scamed for $5000 Would love to talk to you.
I got scammed just the other day. I am a student and they scammed me just over £2000 I am still in shock and extremely upset because of it!
Hi Elisha, I am based in the Uk and I have just been scammed by the amazon Payments scam after seeing a classified advert on eBay for £3800. I don’t know how old your post is regarding a lawsuit and would welcome any feedback.
Many thanks
Dean Baker
I as well was one of the unlucky ones. Almost four grand ripped off by a [email protected]
I saw the Amazon part and thought it was legit since ive ordered from am Aaron zon before. I wish i wouldnt have been so naive
Hi Elisha I don’t know how long is your post, I’m recently a fallen of victim of scam. She post on the craiglist 2005 Acura lt 74,980 miles for $1900 by using the third party amazon payment using the moneygram. I trusted the amazon website so I go for it . Amazon should post the warning on their website to let their customer knows what’s going on. If you ever lawsuit against amazon , I will join you
I almost bought this same car.. she says she is an oceanographer and gives all this info and when you run the vin# it’s registered to Patricia Shelton in Chattanooga TN… this is crazy and someone needs to stop her before anyone else is scammed.
Holy fuck. I came on here because i was worried that i was getting scammed for a 2004 Acura TL priced at $2,000. SHE ALSO CLAIMED SHE WAS AN OCEANOGRAPHER. This is what she emailed me:
“Hi,
I’ve received your email regarding the 2004 Acura TL with 69,000 miles on it. The car is still for sale and my asking price is $2,000. It is a 2004 model loaded with everything, VIN# 19UUA66244A066787. The car is very well maintained and it has just been completely serviced. The engine( 6 Cylinder) runs very good and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly. The car is in perfect condition with clear title,no accidents, no liens or loans.
I’m an oceanographer and I’m on sea at this moment, so I left the car in Mc Lean, VA, at the shipping company, it’s already packed and waiting to be shipped anywhere. Shipping/delivery is included in this price as I almost closed the deal with another customer but he was unable to take the loan from the bank. I’ve already prepared shipping for him as he was out of state.
Here are some pictures with the car:

It is not Amazon’s responsibility to teach, inform or protect you from yourself and make you do your due diligence. It is the individuals responsibility to do their own research, verify the information they are being given or sent. Again, another individual wanting to blame someone else because they made a costly mistake.
Everyone is responsible to inspect, research and verify any information they are being given relating to a transaction they are undertaking. Called identity theft. You do not sue someone whos identity was stolen. You do it online, research it first. Just because Amazon has deep pockets. Only in America, land of so many stupid, arrogant and entitled cry babies.
Hello I had read your comment and my family has just became a victim of the amazon car scam . email me if you will thanks . I was interested in hearing more about what your trying to do .
If I hadn’t come across this site and all the comments from people I would have just been scammed out of $3,500. Happened the exact same way. Supposedly a lady in the military about to be deployed to south korea. It’s so sad the people do this and the public needs to be warned.
Lools like I was just scammed out of 2500 and I am so angry. That was my tax refund money and were trying to buy a vehicle for my son. Should have known something was up. Is there anythng I can do now?
I am interested in a class action lawsuit against Amazon. My 16 year old granddaughter was scammed out of $800 for a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle being sold my a 3rd party partnering with Amazon. She is absolutely devastated because she has worked and saved for weeks to purchase her first car. Please let me know the next steps.
Thank You
This is a clear indication of possible growth in second hand cars
in near future. Recently fuel price increases have drastically reduced the value of trucks and SUVs as they flood the used car
market. According to Natural Resources Canada, driving standard with these features
can save five to ten percent over automatic.
I wanted to thank you personally for your info. On here!! I thought I was buying a boat on boat trader but it turned out you needed to wire money through moneygram. So I did … $2600.00 thinking its ok. No it wasn’t real. I called moneygram an hour later after reading this site.. I was lucky enough to get my money refunded by calling the 800# on the receipt. The girl at the register told me a story about how her little sister wasn’t as lucky. She was trying to buy her first car, they took the money and ran!!
Thank Goodness I came googled this information. I am looking for a car for my sister and a 1999 Honda was listed for 750.00 on craigslist. I emailed her and she gave this information about being a ssg in the military and was preparing for deployment. it didn’t feel right. Thank you for this helpful info
I saw a listing for a 2003 chevy Tahoe by a michelle taylor last night (3/1/13) and it is exactly the same story. something told me to google amazon payment and it brought me here, thank god!
WOW. IM GLAD I DIDN’T FALL FOR THE SCAM. YESTERDAY NIGHT.I WAS ON CRAIG’SLIST IN SEARCH.FOR A VEHICLE, SURE THING I FOUND A NICE LEXUS FOR A GOOD PRICE OF WHAT WAS 2,500! I CONTACTED THE OWNER BY EMAIL. AND THIS WAS HER
RESPONSE :
Hi,
I’m writing you regarding my 2006 Nissan Maxima SE. The price I’m looking for is $1800. The car has 52,000 miles, and is in perfect condition, there’s not even a scratch on it. Everything from the motor to the tiers is shining and looking brand new. I am desperate,I need urgently money because my little girl has a big health problem. I only deal through Amazon so if you’re interested in purchasing let me know. Also let me know if you need any more info on this wonderful car or if you have any other questions of any sort.
THAT’S A CHEAP CAR. EVEN LOOKS NEW. BUT SOMETHING JUST DIDN’T FIT.
TODAY I GOT THE SO CALLED AMAZON “PAYMENT EMAIL”
WHICH INVOLVED A THIRD PERSON. PARTY….
( amazon agent ) !? THIS EMAIL WAS A FAKE. IT READ
AMAZON PAYMENTS AMAZON@YOUR-VEHICLE-PROTECTION..
HMMM. WOW, I KNEW IT WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!
I just came across the same scam here it is:
2009 Ford Escape XLT SUV – $12500
Hello,
This vehicle has absolutely no mechanical problem, the exterior has no scratches, rust or dents and
included. I am selling it because I’ve relocated in Europe and it is too expensive to import it
here. It is still in Canada at a warehouse, ready to be delivered to its buyer with all the
documents. Because I am not able to close the deal myself, I have chosen to use a third party
company to handle the sale. This way we are both protected. Let me know if you’re interested and
if you have questions.
Wish you all the best!,
Deanne Louise
It has 65000 km on it.
I already paid the shipping, it will be delivered without other costs anywhere in Canada. It is in Vancouver
at the warehouse ready for delivery.
I want to use Amazon Payments because I have an agreement with them and a purchase protection
account of $50000 so we will both be 100% protected in this deal.
Let me know if you’re interested and if you have questions.
PS: I attached all the pictures I got ….so now you can see exactly what you can get for this
price!!
Wish you all the best!,
Deanne Louise
See same scam here. 2011 lexus IS 350, priced for $12100. I am almost caught. See your blog. Thanks a lot.
Almost fell for the same scam today. They are using a web site Tom Truck inc. 2003 Jeep Wrangler rubicon. He said a guy from Victoria traded the Jeep for a truck. Would ship free to Canada. But needed to use a 3rd party for payment Amazon payment. I did some research before sending the money. The trucking company does not exist. The amazon web site is bogus.I even spoke on the phone with him a few times and his phone #is a voip line. He wanted confirmation of the money transfer by fax. The fax line was voip out of NYC. The money was to be transferred to Barcleys bank in England
Same scam, same wording. First one was for 1996 Casita camper located in the state of Washington. Amazon Payments Account Manager in Pittsburgh PA. At MoneyGram agent, they noticed a number was lacking and couldn’t complete transaction. When I contacted the US Army, the item went off the sale list and no reply was made. The second was for RV in ND; now I have received the Amazon Invoice and see it is the same wording and no complete number as needed. So much for this game. There should be a fine for illegal sells.
The scam continues. Brent Lindsay has offered to ship the car for free – to Australia!!!! According to another blog I read Amazon has a limit of $1000 per month so car sales simply cannot be transacted there. The police should do sting operations on these types but I reckon the actual people behind it are probably in Malaysia. That’s where the Western Union scam seems to run from.
They are all overseas.I almost got ripped off by the one claiming to be a Lt.Alice Walker getting ready to deploy. A golf cart that was her fathers. He had did from cancer and she had to sell.
When I found the scam on Google I preceded to email them,
Telling them instead that the NSA had tracked them down and if I were them I’d move.It got nastier with them sending pictures of genitalia and fowl words. At least they know they’re scam is somewhat exposed but they probably get a couple fishes a day. There should be someway Amazon officials could work to expose these scams .Stay safe.
It’s amazing how these scams are taking off and even though people are much more informed about them than before, still many of them fall in such traps and end up losing their hard earned money.
Thank you for your post. I had the exact same scam while looking to buy a boat. Many red flags, found your post as I was doing some investigation before sending any money. Had the exact same wording. This transaction is still in progress as far as the scammer is concerned. You saved me $15,000. Thanks.
I nearly fell for this today here in the uk, everything looked so genuine and a legitimate story behind it too. I owe my mate a pint for spotting this blog, and i owe big thanks to the writer for posting it. Cheers.
I had the exact same one as above regarding a 35K Backhoe for $10,200 including shipping from Whitehorse and the guy (Tim Matthews) was in Europe. I had several emails back and forth. I checked the linked website and contacted the help asking about my concerns and got a response within an hour stating that they indeed do this for people outside of the country, what they need was the guys name, email and description on the item. Asked the guy and he sent me the info within minutes, forwarded it back to Amazon Payments mail, but haven’t heard back yet…… Now more suspicious I looked on line and found another Amazon Payment (the real one) and the url did not match the one that was linked to me.
This is pretty sophisticated, they have created a mirror website that you can actually contact and ask a question regarding your concern saying that it is legit! Very believable and convincing. Sooooo Mr Tim Matthews no scam for you!!!!! Since this I reported the Kijijji ad as a scam. And I just got an email from him asking ; So did you talk with Amazon? Are we good to go?
Why can’t these people be tracked down? I hope this type of scam gets more attention to prevent other people out there from getting suckered.
I noticed two emails from Amazon exactly the same. When I said I didn’t get a response from amazon, he must have had them resend it! LOL It stated that Tim Matthews was a registered customer and that we could proceed with the transaction, all I needed to do was register! NOT!
This scam needs to be opened up and brought to the public’s attention!
[email protected] is the email that is being sent to me…
Seller is Linda Grisso 2004 Acura TL 3.2 Sedan for 2,000.00

Blessings to you and thanks for letting me know before I sent this in the morning.
Thanks Michelle
I’ve been looking at used cars on Craigslist and got an almost boilerplate scam response.
“Hi,
I’ve received your email regarding the 2008 Honda Accord EX-L with 68,714 miles on it, Automatic, Gasoline, Engine: 3.5L. The car is still for sale and my final price is $2,700. The car is in perfect shape, never been smoked in, without scratches no dents, and it has never been involved in any kind of accidents. I legally own, free of any liens or loans, under my name. The engine runs very good and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly. I’m selling the car because I lost my husband and my child of only 19 years, with 2 months ago in a car accident.A drunk truck driver hit them. They were in my husband’s car and they didn’t had a chance. This was my child’s car and brings me a lot of memories that make me suffer and this is the reason for what I want to sell it as soon as possible. I only deal through Amazon so if you have any other questions, or need more info, please free to ask.
Thank you!”
It sounds too good to be true, but I sent a reply anyways saying that I’d like to check out the vehicle personally and if that’s okay then send me another email so we can figure out the details.
I got the exact same email, word for word, but for an ’08 F-150 and was about to go ahead with the transaction, but I ended up seeing this blog. Thanks for posting this, saved me a lot of money. P.S it’s still up and running today (Oct. 2nd/2013)
You need a great job investigating the Amazon Payments side of this scam.
I just posted a complete breakdown of how the scam works at http://www.theclassiccarfactory.blogspot.com so you can identify it in the ad – with examples of several scam ads listed right now on Craigslist and carsforsale.com
The more we expose these jerks’ methods – the quicker they will fade away.
Almost got caught in one today.. My husband and I were looking for a used side by side utv and saw a fully loaded 2012 Polaris 900 xp for $9350 on the autotrader website. Seemed like a good deal, only a few thousand off the price of new utv, so it didn’t seem too far off the mark… Just enough to get us interested. The woman’s name was Jennifer Hamilton, and she claimed to have been transferred to Winnipeg and would not be able to use it. She gave the same line about the vehicle being at an amazon warehouse and wanting to use them for both of our protections. My husband checked out the link and it looked good as well… One of the big red flags for us was the email address of Amazon Flexible Payments was “[email protected]”…. If this was a ligit email, wouldn’t Amazon have the address end in amazon.com?? Also the link to the website ended in “.wink.cs” what is that.
HA…I found TWO of these Amazon.com schemes in the Roanoke VA area for a car in Tampa for an “Oceanographer” at sea selling an 2006 Lexus ES for $2404…another one was in Winston Salem NC for a car that was in Atlanta …since I lived in Atlanta, after at first being suckered in for a normally $10,00 2006 Acura TL for $1900(HAHA..they know how to take advantage of our greed as well as materialism)I put “her” to the test and said I was visiting on Saturday and she could meet me a various malls or any public place of her choosing where she could receive cash and save on “shipping”.
Today I receive an email saying since she initiated the transaction with Amazon payments..she would keep it that way, instead of risk her “career and freedom” for that amount of money…After I stopped laughing I sent them a reply saying all one has to do is google “Amazon Payments” and “buying cars” and numerous websites with scam in the title appear.
Thank God I found this and other sites before I gave away all of the money I will have for a while out of greed. Once she started the transaction a site calling itself Amazon Payments had official looking page with picture of the auto..a contract manager’s name and email(but no number) and a bunch of other passable elements to fool people..until they get to the moneygram part. Anyway I think the reason they have went to smaller amounts in they’re scams asking for less than $3k is because Now Moneygram and Western Union have caught on….I wish the poster luck in suing Amazon.com because they should be doing SOMETHING to keep so many people from being scammed in their name
Many thanks to all of you! My emails were verbatim to yours most of the time. I didn’t bite BIG yet, so no loss but I was really close. My family saw red flags before I did so I decided to do just a little research – boy was I surprised and really disappointed. I really wanted that CHERRY 1956 Chevy Bel Air coupe. Watch out if anybody else tries for it.
I just stumbled across another example of this on Craigslist. a really nice 2001 Harley for only $5K and then was told that it included shipping and handling as well. When something sounds too good to be true it usually is. I got an email response from the seller which is almost identical to the original one posted above and pointing to a ficticious spoofed Amazon site. Glad I can read a URL and did some poking around first.
HI Just wondered whether you thought this could be one of those scams you so readily expose.
This is what she said :
Yes, it is IS250, sorry about the mistake in the ad. It has 27,000 miles. I’m the second owner. Before I left the country, I arranged a safe sale through Amazon Flexible Payments. I’ve moved the car to our Army Barracks, Grantham, Lincolnshire to keep it in a safe place until I find a buyer for it. The shipping process is not an issue. The vehicle will be delivered with the 2 keys, full paperwork and the V5 signed by me. This is how works : Amazon FPS will hold your payment until you’ll receive and agree with to purchase my vehicle. It will be shipped at your home address in maximum 3 days.Amazon will offer you a 7 days for inspection, from the day you’ll receive the car, that means you can inspect it at your own place, take it to a mechanic, drive it, and then if you decide to keep it, you’ll confirm to Amazon the sale and they will transfer the payment to me. If, by any reason, you will not be satisfied with my car you can return it at my expense for a full refund of your money, no questions asked. You are not risking any pounds and you’ll have the chance to check the vehicle before the final decision. This Amazon transaction is eligible for vehicles, because I paid some extra taxes.
I think this is a fair procedure for both of us. This Amazon service is secured because your payment is 100% covered. I have an open Bank Account with Amazon FPS and if something goes wrong, you will get a full refund from my account. Amazon will confirm this, when we will open the case with them. Your payment is just a security measure, to make sure that you are serious, and that I am not going to ship the car, and lose time and money. You are not risking any pounds and you’ll have the chance to check the car before the final decision. You can read more about this service in the attached document.
I need to provide your details to Amazon so they can open a case for us. Please reply with your full name and your shipping address, a contact phone # so I can ask Amazon to open a case! After that, they will contact you to explain all the details regarding the transaction.
I’m looking forward to hear from you.
I just came across an ad for a 2009 harley davidson for only 7700.oo dollars in whitehorse. Almost got it until i came across your blog. thank you. After i answered the ad. i went back on kijiji to look at the bike and it was already down.
I almost got scammed by these people,
This time it was a Michelle Bingley claiming to be an army medic posted in Germany. She had exported the van over from the UK “for safe keeping” and would use Amazon Payments to do the deal, then deliver it to me.
The email claiming to be from Amazon was from [email protected]. The domain mail.com is a free mail account with 1&1 and nothing to do with Amazon.
One sign that its a fraud is that they take the ad down as soon as you contact them.
I sent an email to them saying that I was doing security checks, within a few minutes they had sent an email from the above address claiming to be from Amazon payments saying the transaction was legitimate and strongly advised me to make the payment. What they did not know was that I had given Amazon a different email address. They had sent it to the one I was using with the seller, LOL BUSTED.
I was about to get scammed! This is the email i received from someone that called herself Susan R Taylor:
Hi,
I have a low price on my 2004 Honda Accord LX because I want to sell the car very quickly. The price is $2,400 including delivery to your home address. The car is in perfect condition, no electric problems, no accidents/liens/loans. No scratches, never been repainted. I have all the car manuals, title, documents. I’m selling this car because my child of only 23 died 4 months ago in a car accident,a drunk driver hit him and his fiancee. He was with his fiance’s car coming to our home at his little brother birthday of 10 years old. The car belonged to my son and it brings me bad memories and that’s the reason I want to sell it. The last price is $2,400. Me and my husband travel a lot with our business and we want to make this deal through Amazon Buyer Protection Program.

2Nd message :
Thank you, the car is located in West Palm Beach, FL at DAS ( Dependable Auto Shippers ) headquarters, in the container, sealed and ready for shipping. You will have 10 days so you can inspect the car. Once you have inspected the car and decided to keep it, you will confirm your decision to Amazon and only then they will re-route the money in to my account, but if by any reason, you won’t be satisfied with the car you can return it back for a full refund of your money. I will take care of the shipping, don’t worry. You will receive the car with all the necessary papers (clear title, bill of sale, user’s manual, insurance etc).
Just get back with your full name and full shipping address and I will get everything started as soon as possible, then Amazon will contact you with further instructions
Thanks,
Susan R Taylor
But then some how i received another msg similar to the previous ones that made it even look more shady..
Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding my car. It is in perfect condition, there’s not even a scratch or any dents on it. Everything about it is in perfect condition. I have clear title for it, no liens or loans.
The car is priced to sell quickly and the final price that I’m asking for it is $2,350 including shipping and handling costs. My husband died 3 months ago and me and my daughter decided to sell the house and move to my sister’s. The car reminds us very much of my husband but we finally understood that we have to move on with our lives. Although my husband will have his place in our hearts forever. I can’t afford to take days off my work for this sale so i’m trying to sell it online.
If you are really interested in purchasing the car please reply to this email and i will provide further instructions regarding payment and delivery.
Regards!
Susanne Baldwin
As you can see its almost the first same name just different emails..
These emails were [email protected] [email protected]
WATCH OUT FOR THESE SCAMMERS! When something is to good to be true dont buy it!
I got another one from Susan but this time she using her real Facebook profile what should I do??
This is the email I received 9th March 2014 in the UK:
Hi ,
My name is Daniel Robson ,I am the owner of the 2008 FORD FIESTA (B256/7) ST 16V.
Regarding the car, it is in perfect condition, no accidents, no damage, scratches or dents. HPI clear, the car is fully paid. It is registered to United Kingdom .It has 51,000 miles REG:BP08UEK.And It drives like new, garage kept and babied.
The price i was looking for is £2,600 since i am looking for a fast sale and don’t have time to negotiate so this is the basic price.
Regarding the sale, i am selling it because i had to move back in Netherlands with work,i already bought another car here as i was unable to register the Ford here since the fees are to high being a UK model and specs. I work as a broker and as stated before i already bought a car here.
If you are interested in purchasing i want to use a third party for our protection in this case Amazon Payments Using theyr services it allows you as the buyer to receive the car first and also give you an inspection period of 7 days in wich you can decline the sale if you are not satisfied. I doubt that since the car is in perfect condition.
The shipping will be home delivery and insured.
If you want to move forward with the sale and have the payment email me your entire name, shipping address and also your phone number , so i can call you and discuss further details and also forward all the info to Amazon Payments so they can contact you also with all the details regarding the transaction, how you are protected and also payment details/options.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon,
Daniel

exactly the same scam nearly happened to me using autotrader / amazon payment but luckily didn’t pay any money cos sixth sense……lady selling the car apparently re-located to austria and her insurance doesn’t cover the surgery she needs………watch out for katie wilson, hope she really is ill
Son Of A B….Aug 2014. Caught an ad off cycle trader. 2k for a 4-5k bike…
When 1st email came in, it was Maria Fox, Newly divorced, moved to this state, but the bike (gotten in the divorce) was in MT…. Used the FPS and a safe transaction. 10 days os send it back.
Invoice from Amazon@payment-fps.
Even used a header from DAS Automotive delivery. said the bike was with them waiting to go.
Used Amayon Payments logos and all
3 things tipped me off.
1)Sender address was StephK9@Gmail on behalf of Amazon FPS([email protected])
2) Money payments only through MoneyPAK
3) for Questions hit reply to the this email..
Thats when I started checking. and Tracing. Emails from Romania. How do these people even come up with this stuff…this one was good, not as low down shitty as the dead child one…People should be put in town squares in chains for months. These people should know shame and suffering. and then these people should not waste any more of decent peoples oxygen…
Unbelievable.
Thanks for sharing and saving me from getting scammed!!!
Hi,
I’ve received your email regarding the 2005 Nissan Altima with 74,000 miles on it. The car is still for sale and my asking price is $2,000. It is a Altima model loaded with everything, VIN# 1N4BL11D35N400917. The car is very well maintained and it has just been completely serviced. The engine (3.5L V6 ) runs very good and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly. The car is in perfect condition with clear title, no accidents, no liens or loans. The mpg is 24 city and 32 highway and never been involved in a accident, Non-smoker. I’m an oceanographer and I’m on sea at this moment, so I left the car in Chattanooga, TN, at the shipping company, it’s already packed and waiting to be shipped anywhere. Shipping/delivery is included in this price as I almost closed the deal with another customer but he was unable to take the loan from the bank. I’ve already prepared shipping for him as he was out of state.

The car is located at the shipping company since someone agree to buy it, but at the end he never got the loan. For this reason the shipping is included. Also the price is small because I don’t have time for negotiations and I need money soon for my research.
The car is in perfect condition with clear title, no liens or loans. All the documents including the title and the bill of sale with my signature on it, will come along with the car and it will take no more than 2-3 days for the car to arrive at your address.
The transaction will be made thru Amazon Payments because they can protect both of us and they also offer 5 days inspection period. You’ll have 5 days to inspect, test and drive the car before decided to keep it or not. If the vehicle is not like I described, you’ll ship it back on my expense and they will give you a full refund.
Amazon Payments will hold the funds until you receive the car with all the papers work. Only after you confirm them that you wanna keep the car they will release me the funds. In this way, you will be able to inspect the vehicle before committing to buy it.
If you want to start the transaction with Amazon Payments just reply me with your full name, shipping address and your phone number. Thx

2nd email from her…..
I found this information to late. I just lost $2,000.00 with a wire transfer for a truck with this exacted scam. I feel like such a fool and frankly taking it hard. I was in need and desperate and didn’t ask enough question before I sent the payment. The Amazon 3rd party protection put my guard down. I really hate that someone can steal from people that are in need of a little help and a break. It was hard to hear that my bank Wells Fargo do not reimburse wire transfer and that I’m not protected. I hope I can recover but this is a expensive lesson to trust anyone anymore. It makes me think I’m on the wrong side of the law to know that this person can get away with stealing money without much effort or risk.
Thank you so much for posting all these blogs on the Amazon Scam. Almost all exact wording except 03 Nissan Altima in Portlands Craigslist. The car is stored in a warehouse in California and something about being to busy to do transaction herself cause she’s divorced and her child is sick. I think its wrong also to say that Amazon is going to be sued, its not Amazons fault this is going on, basically anyone should do their homework, especially when spending that type of money online. All u have to do is type in key word, like Amazon Payments and scam after it in Google to see if there is any foul play going on. Thanks for everyone’s help in figuring this out!

This scam is still going here in UK, November 2014. We got caught out using Piston Heads. I hope “Mr Jason Drew” aka “Muhammed Idrees” rots in hell as it took us a long time to save for that car.
Fallen victim to this – I’m only 17 and I’ve been conned out of £2,400 from my savings. Wish I’d done my research and come across this blog earlier. National Fraud Office is involved now, probably won’t get my money back from the so called ‘Patricia Turner’ situated in Austria who is having her having her ‘voice box replaced’ (hence no phone calls)’ or ‘Amazon flex pay’.
Think they are at it again in the UK.
Lady called annabell Ruth with a cheap alfa brera.
Stay alert people!
Thanks Jim! I always do diligence when purchasing big ticket items. Looking at a nice camaro on the cars site a couple of weeks ago. I responded to the owner and received a email a few weeks later. The same amazon payment was indicated as the middle man to protect us both. I then looked back at the cars site and the cars did not show up. Since the vehicle is on the west coast and I live on the east coast it would be a expense just to view this in person. I am going to pursue the conversation online and indicate I will be flying in to see the vehicle in person. I’ll see were this goes. Thanks for the information and your time spent!
Still happening on Auto Trader as of Jan 2015:
response e-mails from: Sgt Travis Sabinash [email protected]
I thought it was real because I found this name listed in the US military, but probably not really him – the e-mails were filled with broken English. Feel sorry for the real Travis.
The story goes:
he is currently in a military base, Malmstrom Air Force Base in Cascade, MT, and the car is there with him.
He must sell the car before deployment to Afghanistan.
Honda S2000

$13,000
Then he sent me his phone number so have fun with this!!

Wow, that same name and email tried selling me a 82 el Camino on carsforsale… Same story different places… I am so glad that I didn’t go through with it.
Thank you for sharing and saving my home and marriage, we would’ve lost everything.
Here is an email reply I got from a Lt.Janmes Morrow of the RAAF in the Military base in the NT, Australia.
Hello Johnnie,
As I mentioned in my previous e-mail at this moment I am in RAAF Tindal, NT military base, getting ready for Afghanistan, and I have the car with me.
I’m in a special training program before my deployment and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or have visitors.
I can ship the car to you without problems using army transport and logistic system. You will receive the car along with all the documents. As for the payment I can start a transaction through Amazon Payment.
All I need is your full name and address so I can contact them and after that they will contact you to explain the entire procedure without any obligation to buy it or fees. They act as a third party and will protect both of us in this transaction.
You’ll make the payment in an Amazon managed trust fund!
After that, I send it over ( the car will be delivered with the title, owner’s manual, service records, and of course the bill of sale authorized and signed by me).
You will have 7 days inspection period on it from the day you’ll receive the car, you can inspect it, take it to a mechanic to check it out, ride it and then if you decided to keep it, you’ll confirm to Amazon the sale. If by any reason, you will not be satisfied with the car ( even though I can assure you that it is exactly as described, in excellent condition), you can return it at my expense for a full refund of your money, no hidden or extra cost for you.
So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see it before committing to buy and to eliminate any concerns you will have 7 days to inspect it and I think this is more than fair for both of us.
I tried to explain as best I can but if you have further questions do not hesitate to contact me.
I will wait your details (full name and shipping address) if we have a deal.
Please keep in mind that I need to sell the car this week.
I am waiting your e-mail
Best Regards,
Lt. James Morrow
He has still NOT answered my first email that asks him for proof of ID.
I have notified http://www.drive.com.au
And please everybody, do some research before committing to any financial transactions online. We would’ve lost $19,900 of our hard savings, which means our kids would miss out.
Be careful out there and thank you all for sharing
Kind regards
Johnnie

Scam still out there. In Australia. Mercedes ML300 on eBay. Same wording. Different name. Stay safe.

Thanks for sharing… I just avoided this fate. This vehicle was a 1956 Ford F100 that was listed on EBay (classified Ad). My emails are from Capt Peter Cape.
Hello again,
As I told you in my previous e-mail at this moment I am in a military base, RAAF Base Pearce, WA getting ready for Afghanistan, and I have the car with me.
This mean that I do a special training program. I am not allowed to get out of the unit or have visitors.
I can ship the car to you without problems using army transport and logistic system. You will receive the car along with all the documents. As for the payment I can start a transaction through Amazon.

** I just asked if he was any relation to Lt. James Morrow. Probably wont hear back 😛
Well Peter Cape must know James Dobson who is also in special training at the RAAF base in Pearce WA. Apparently he also needs to get rid of his Nissan Patrol ute really quickly for a ridiculously cheap price!
We’ve just been victims of this scam in the Uk by trying to purchase a car advertised on Autotrader. We’ve lost £3,100. The fraudster said the car was ready in Austria to be shipped to us because she was in hospital over there needing an urgent operation. All looked so good but now stunned how we could have been so stupid to be taken by it.
Thank YU soo much for this article. I was a few days from buying a scam. A 2011 Jeep Wrangler is listed for $12220. The female said they she is in the army and that the car is located in Washington state.i am so glad I read this. You can right away tell something is not right about this listing.
Looks like I almost fell for it twice!! iim a college student looking to buy a cheap car. Went on Craigslist to find some found two. They looked pretty nice. Emailed the people and the email is just like yours.
First I got a woman saying her husband and daughter died so she doesn’t want the car because it reminds her of them. She wanted to do Amazon payments. I’ll attach the email.
Hi,
Thanks for your interest regarding my 2007 Toyota Camry SE. The price I’m looking for is $2,500 with shipping included. Let me give you a few details about it: very good shape, no mechanical issues,no loan or lien ,no scratches or dents, with a clean title and it has never been involved in any kind of accidents! Has only 98,000 miles, it’s automatic, with an 2.4L V4.I’m selling it because I lost my husband and my daughter of only 19 years 1 month ago in a car accident. A drunk truck driver hit them. They were in my husband’s car and they didn’t have a chance. This was my daughter’s first car and brings me a lot of memories that make me suffer and this is the reason for what I want to sell it as soon as possible and at this price.I only deal through Amazon so if you have any other questions, or need more info, please free to ask.
Thank you!
The next email was a woman claiming she was in the military and that she needed to sell the car immediately.
Hi, right now I’m in a military base. We are training, getting ready for leaving the country. The delivery process will be managed by me. I think I can have it there at your home address within 2-3 working days. It will come with a clear title and reg. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 7 days testing period after delivery. During that 7 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details on this deal. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (your name, your address and phone number), so we can get the ball rolling.
Its so sketchy
I am very lucky to read your article. I almost fell for a 2005 maxima for $1600. The person that was scamming me was a military women who was being deployed. Here is my email.
Hello,
First of all I want to thank you for your interest in my 2005 Nissan Maxima SE. The car has been extremely well maintained with a full service history, it has 94,975 miles. The vehicle has all of its original floor mats, all books, complete set of tools and keys. Everything works in the car lights, gauges, radio, windows, locks, a/c blows ice cold, etc. It has no leaks or drips and does not smoke at all, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions with a clear title free of liens. The transmission is automatic.
I bought it when I was serving in the U.S. Air Force in St. Clair, IL and now I am deployed in Terceira Island, Portugal. The car will be delivered from St. Clair, IL, it is stored in a military compound.
I have dropped my price to $1,600 (purchase price) including delivery and handling to your address, it will be delivered free of charge through a military transportation service to a designated location of your choice, average delivery time is 2-3 business days. All documents you need for ownership, manuals and bill of sale will be provided along with the vehicle. It has been reduced because I need to find a buyer before my upcoming deployment take place and I don’t want to waste more time negotiating.
If you’re interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner please email me your full name, shipping address and phone number, to open a case with Amazon Payments. They will contact you to explain the entire procedure. The financial part will be managed by them, which means that you will have a 15 days inspection period before committing to buy the car. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the car before committing to buy. Using Amazon Payments service we are both 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. They will be the 3rd, objective party involved in the transaction.
To support my argument regarding the condition of the car please visit the following photo album: imgur . com/a/EUCeG#0

Thanks for this article. this totally kept me from being scammed and losing $1600.
Thank you, I really appreciate this blog. You saved me from loosing $2,500.
I just found out my husband got suckered by an add that sounded identical to the one you posted except it was for a dump trailer and the seller’s name was Tina (her son had been killed in an accident). She gave her phone number as being 205-607-0984. He had already sent the $2,000 when I found out. Now there is no answer at that number. I know he is out the money and there is nothing we can do but tighten our belts.
I just wish there was some way to catch and prosecute this individual
Looks like another one here. Knew it was most likely too good to be true.
Hello,
My O7 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LTZ is still for sale. It has 161k miles.Automatic, clear title. The price was reduced at $5500 as I need to sell it before June 16 th , when I’ll be leaving with my unit Brigade Combat Team back to South Korea replacing the troops scheduled to come home. The deal includes free delivery as you may know we can ship a car/bike/etc from home to the base and back one time in a year for free. The vehicle will arrive at your address in 2days so my presence it’s not necessary cause I have everything arranged with Amazon Safepay. You will have 5 days testing period before I receive any money and if by any reason you find something you don’t like about, you can send it back on my expense and you will receive a full refund of your money. This was my email from Lt. James Morrow
Hello,
I still have the 2012 Toyota Kluger (ViN: JTEES41A802198583) for sale and I am ready to let it go for $18,900.The car is in perfect condition exactly as you see in the pictures. No mechanical problems, no leaks, no rust, everything is in very good order. Title is clean and clear, no accidents. I have to sell this car as fast as I can because in two weeks I will be in Afghanistan and I think I’ll stay there for a while, that’s why I’m selling it so cheap. Currently I’m in a military base, RAAF Tindal, NT, and the car is here with me. I can ship for free anywhere in Australia if you want to buy it. I will appreciate if you let me know your decision as soon as possible, I must sell the car before my June 29 deployment.
I attached some photos and let me know if you like the car.
Best Regards,
Lt. James Morrow

Hope to hear from you soon!”
My wife and I were looking for a Jeep Wrangler for our daughter so we decided to look on craigslist for some good deals. Well, the whole thing seemed a little fishy and it turned out to be a scam. Thankfully we didn’t send any money but here’s the email that they sent us so none of you guys will fall for a scam like this: “Hello there,
Glad you are one of the people interested in buying my 2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. I’m selling it because I’m serving in Offutt AFB, Nebraska but I was promoted and transferred to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage Alaska for a 3 years period, so I don’t need it anymore at this time. Let me give you a few details about it: very good shape, no mechanical issues,no scratches nor dents and it has never been involved in any kind of accidents. Has only 45,000 miles, its automatic, with an 4.0L V6 cyl. engine, 4 x 4, black exterior and gray interior. Not interested in a trade and my final price is $5,800. I have a clear title, free of any liens or loans on it, under my name. Also, I’ve attached you some more pictures with the vehicle in this email.
If you are interested in buying it or if you have any questions, please reply to this email.
Thank you
Lt. Heather McDowell”
So then we replied and she responded so that’s when we got the feeling that we were being set up.
“Hi again,
I will do my best to walk you through the process. As I told you in my first email, I recently got promoted and transferred to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage Alaska for a 3 years period, so I don’t need the vehicle anymore at this time. The vehicle is located in Omaha , NE, but I advertised it on other states also to get more exposure and sell it faster. It is already at the shipping company headquarters , sealed and ready to be delivered to its future new owner. The deal is handled by Amazon so I don’t have much to do about it. Using Amazon Safepay, you get free delivery, at your place in maximum 48hours. In addition, you get 5 days to try it out before buying it, and if you don’t like it, you can send it back at my expense ( I assure you that is not going to happen since my vehicle is in immaculate condition ). If you wish to proceed just send me an email with your full name (for the bill of sale), a delivery address and a phone # where you can be reached and I will forward them to Amazon and they will send you the invoice with all of the transaction details.
P.S. On the invoice you can find delivery details, payments options and safety plans, and as well their main toll free # for any questions you may have!
Thank you,
Lt. Heather McDowell”
Please don’t fall for scams like these, they may seem very realistic but always do your research before buying something on Craigslist
Looks as though I nearly bought this scam , I felt something was, t right after several mails with 3 days delay each time the person told me they had been deployed until end of this year with the military in kahtmandue. I still had this niggle until I came across this site exactly the same type of reply from the seller’s thank you for highlighting this scam saved a lot of heartache
I found a 2007 Escalade for $5,500. I emailed to see where the vehicle was located. She said it was at the military base in Ft. hood and there was no way for me to see it. She was deploying on September 9th for Korea. She arranged the transaction with Amozon Safeway. shipping would be free because the military pays for vehicle shipping upto twice a year.
All, please be aware.
Thanks
I knew it was too good to be true! I got the same woman from Ft. Hood stating that she is going to be deployed and needs to sell car, 2011 Toyota Forerunner for $6500. Payment could be arranged via Amazon after 5 day testing period blah, blah, blah. Be careful and be smart!
Thank you for the information , I was nearly to be scammed
I received this email also today
The car has been bought from Dubai,I have attached a copy of the reg card in this email. The car is already at the shipping company in Madrid sealed and ready for the shipping. My presence won’t be necessary because I prearranged the deal with Amazon. The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 3 days. You will have 5 days to try out prior to making any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don’t like about it you can send it back at my expense. If you are interested in knowing more info about how it works, I can ask Amazon to send you an email with more information on how to purchase it.Amazon will contact you shortly after they have the details with all the confirmation that you need to complete this deal and you will also have proof that I am covered by them and a legitimate seller. If you would like to receive the email from Amazon will all the transaction information please reply with your full name and shipping address and they will contact you right away.
Thank you!
Thanks for the posting it has been very helpful. Found a car on Craig’s list that was reasonably priced and allegedly in Dayton, OH and was being sold because it was a third car they didn’t need. Contacted the seller and expressed interest and was informed that the seller was US Military stationed somewhere in Alaska but the car was in storage in Chicago where the seller left it prior to being stationed in Alaska and had to sell the car because she was being deployed to overseas.
The red herring to this is that the seller said their duty assignment in Chicago was Fort Dearborn. Fort Dearborn was closed in the 1800’s.
As this whole process started to stink I wrote and ask for the VIN and where exactly the car was in Chicago. No response, and I don’t expect one. To many conflicting stories, Dayton, Alaska, Chicago?
Again, thanks for the post.
Thank you so much for this website and blog. I found my deal of a lifetime on craigslist. Was almost caught with the amazon assurance scheme as I use amazon frequently. First of all you need to make the payment to Amazon Safepay, the funds will be placed on hold into their account. Then the shipping will start and the car will arrive at your location in max 48hrs. Then you will have 5 days testing period. If you will decide to keep the car, you should call Amazon to confirm them and they will release the funds to me. If not, you can ship it back, i will pay for the returning fees and you will get your money back in 12hrs. I hope you understand how it works.
So if you wanna purchase my car, just get back to me with your full name, full shipping address and phone # and Amazon will send you the invoice. There you will find all the steps you need to follow in order to make the payment.

Hello,
My current location is North Bay, Ontario (ON) inside of the CFB North Bay barracks. I’m doing a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The delivery will take 2 to 3 days depending on your location and it’s not a problem because I can do it at no cost for you. Let me give you all the details about this purchase and how we can complete it through Fulfilled by Amazon.
The payment is going to be sent to amazon fulfillment center, and they will hold and secure your money during the entire transaction. I repeat, they will hold and insure your money until receipt of the vehicle in good condition and will release the funds to me only after you decide to keep the vehicle and you register it, into your name. You will have an inspection period of 7 days. In this time you can check, test and inspect the vehicle. If by any reason (the vehicle has any hidden damages or is not like I describe it) you can reject the deal. In this case Amazon’s Fulfilling will refund you totally and they will deliver the vehicle back.
Let me know your delivery details (your full name, full address and home phone number) so I can open a transaction case with Amazon’s Fulfilling and declare you as buyer. They will contact you with further information regarding payment and delivery but with no obligation to pay.
Have a wonderful day!
Regards,
Carrie Brons,
So this is how mine went. I almost fell for it but my gut feel is tingling and my boyfriend told me its a scam. RED FLAG! Same as the others, she’s involved with military project and is moving to US for long term. I’ve read others’ as well and she uses same wording. Argh! Thank god!
My scam email came from [email protected]
…similar military story – seller ‘deployed overseas.’ Instructions for completing the transaction came via PDF attached to the email — not a link to an Amazon webpage.
The scammer should probably use another name than Carrie Brons. Below is the reply email for a dirt cheap Honda CRV advertised on Kijiji..
Hi,
I have just checked mailbox and found your e-mail, so I would like to apology for late reply, been a little busy with work. I confirm that the vehicle is still for sale for $2,000.00 (CAD), and the only reason for selling this vehicle so cheap is because I am involved in a military project, and I will move to United States on 20th May, and staying long term. It is the first time I will go to United States and I am a little nervous but excited. It would be a shame to keep the vehicle in the garage without being used, and I also need some cash before leaving in United States.
My current location is North Bay, Ontario (ON) due to my work commitments. Please let me know if you are still interested in buying it, and I will tell you more about how we can forward with this sale.
Have a wonderful day!
Regards,
Carrie Brons,
I guess Carrie never heard of Google.
Wow. I can’t believe how long these internet scams have been going on and how many people have been scammed. Yes, I get it…do your research…”if it’s too good to be true- it is!” BUT what is being done to STOP this! Reading these stories truly breaks my heart. We work hard for our money and to know that someone could so easily just take your money without getting caught is just absurd. In a perfect world, which we will never live in something like this would NEVER happen. We have so much technology and opportunity to do great things with it- it’s a shame that people who are so corrupt have found ways to use it for bad. These scammers are still out there. My mother almost got scammed last night with the 2007 Escalade mentioned at the end of the replies- a few posts up. The scam about the seller being located on a military base and can’t use the phone for private/personal calls. The car is located in Ft HOOD TX. and will be shipped in 48hrs…5 days to test drive…blah blah blah. Respond with name, shipping address and phone number and someone from Amazon Safepay will contact. Anyways- if you are reading this you know the routine. I just wanted to make people aware that they are now asking you to go and purchase Amazon Giftcards! My mother, who is the sweetest person ever and would never imagine doing anything of this nature is a little naive when it comes to the internet [I have banned her from it]. I came home and she was SO excited that she was in the process of purchasing a car. I didn’t see the car in the driveway and was confused. Then she informed me that it was in Texas. I assumed she found a car on Carmax.com and they were shipping it to our local dealer. As she proceeds to tell me about it, I knew immediately it was a scam. She had purchased 7x-$500 Amazon gift cards. And had just hung up with someone clearly not in the US with an 818 area code working with “Amazon Safepay” She gave him all the gift card numbers as well as sent a picture of the receipt. She had no idea she was being scammed because these VERY TERRIBLE EVIL people placed the ad on AutoTrader.com and used reputable company names such as Amazon and Direct Auto Shippers [DAS]. There were several things that I would have seen as a red flag, but I am in my thirties and have spent my years watching the internet grow. I am constantly reading up on stuff like this and am very well aware of how much evil is being done on our WONDERFUL WORLD WIDE WEB. Again, I am TRULY sorry to hear how many people have been scammed out of their money due to corrupt individuals out there in this world. Our story has a happier ending…since they asked for the gift cards…we IMMEDIATELY called Amazon and they were able to still use the gift cards and stick them in our Amazon Wallet. We moved faster then the scammer. Who knows how much time we had. Now mom has $3500 to spend on Amazon. We are very lucky to not have completely lost the money…it was definitely a stressful lesson learned for my mom. Does anyone know what is being done to prevent this? Who are these people? How are they able to do this? I have so many questions that will probably never be answered. How is anyone able to get away with fraud/identity theft/etc? It blows my mind… be safe out there people! Thanks for reading my story. One Love.
I was looking on the offer up app and came across a 2004 toyota tacoma for $1500 wit h77k miles on it. I thought, “No way it is that cheap without something being wrong with it.” Seller gave her number if anyone had questions about the ad and email address if you wanted more pictures. I texted the number to ask questions and they stated to email them at [email protected] as they could not talk at that moment. The email seemed a little off as it looked to be a military email, however I did not think it was a legit one. I was never in the military, but friends of mine who were had completely different emails in the military (theirs ended in .mil). So, I decided to emailed them to ask questions and got this response (which the model of the truck and engine size were wrong and made me think this was a scam):
Hi,
Thank you for being interested in buying my 2004 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner V6 Double Cab. It has been extremely well maintained with a full service history and has never been involved in an accident. It has 77,657 miles miles, the truck comes with a 3.4L liter engine V6. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and the engine, runs great. Title is clean. I bought it when I was serving the McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas but I was promoted and transferred to Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska for a 3 years period and I do not want to let it ruin in my backyard, therefore I need a fast and reliable buyer.
The truck is still in Kansas crated and sealed ready to go. The shipping will be free because I will transport it using the Internal Logistic Department! The Logistic Department will deliver the truck to the nearest US Air Force Base in your area and at that point you can pick it up or I can hire a tow truck in our network to have it delivered at your door. The entire shipping process will take 2-3 days. The financial part will be managed by Amazon which means you will have a 5 days inspection period before committing to buy the truck. This way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
My bottom line would be $1,500 so if you are interested to conclude this purchase, in a timely manner please provide me your full name, shipping address and phone number so I can inform Amazon that I have a buyer!
Hope to hear from you soon!

Then I asked another question on how Amazon handles the financial aspect and the 5 day inspection period and got this response:
Hi,
As far as I know after I discussed with Amazon the transaction works like this: You need to send me your full name, shipping address, phone number and I will forward them to Amazon so we can initiate our transaction with them. Once the transaction has started we will both receive further instructions about it including payment invoice and bill of sale, you will need to make a down payment to Amazon and I will start the shipping process.
The 5 days inspection period begin upon the truck’s arrival at your location. If you will be satisfied with the truck and decide to keep it, then you will inform Amazon about this, and they will release the money to me. If the truck is not as I described it and you decide not to keep it, then Amazon will refund your payment in full, no questions asked and shipping it back will be my concern. Please take into consideration that I will get paid only after you receive the truck and make sure everything is as agreed. We are both covered. The truck will arrive with all the documentation required for registration and the keys. The clear title and bill of sale will be both signed so you can become the new owner of the truck on the spot.
Thanks,

It’s anything you can do about it? after making payment? I think they got me for $5000
Jim, I had the same interaction with CMSgt Wells. It appears your emails are word for word the exact same emails I received. Luckily for me being former military and current DOD things just didn’t look legit. Buyer Beware!
I was asking how to be sure this was a spam and I got this reply. And I don’t know if should believe it or not, she claims she’s in the military and she has the car with her and can send it out
“I want to take this opportunity to assure you that there is nothing to be worried about this deal. I m sorry because you feel like that about me.Now,if you are in my place to sell something, you’ll take the risk to cheat people and have the police on your door in a few days?????I don’t think so!!!I m in this position!!!!freedom is more precious then everything in this world!! I didn’t get to this stage in life by doing dumb things.I would never cheat you or swindle you!! I have a reputation to protect as a good Christian and I do not want to be imprisoned. You have my word and good faith on the fact that I’ll keep my end of the bargain. I have never lied and cheated anyone. I will not risk my career, my freedom and my future for anything in the world! I would rather close this deal with other person than to know that you’ll be very stressed hoping that I am a honest person, until you receive your car. Your peace of mind is a lot more important than this deal!!!
If you decide not to go through with it there is no problem. I got quite a few offers left. Please get back to me and let me know what you decide.
Best Regards! -Elizabeth doner”
LUCKILY I had a gut feeling this wasn’t real. She really got me at first with the whole military thing. I’m so sad though lol. I really wanted this car. Ugh. Shaking my damn head….
Hello,

Hello my name is Jeffrey. The same thing happened to me twice but in one situation the lady told me her daughter had died and the car brought back memories the other lady said her husband died and the car brought her back memories. Both vehicles prices where under priced. I felt a little fishy about it so I got to browsing and reading about scammers. So I then called the real amazon and found out they don’t sell cars at all for now individual or car dealership, only car parts. Its sad that people want to scam hard working people out of their money. So please everyone be precautions and safe god bless you all!!!
As of 13SEP2016.they are at it again…Hi again, I would have called you already to speed things up, but i am not allowed to get out of the base or call whenever i want,
I’m currently stationed at Whiteman Air Force base from Knob Noster, Missouri but I left the atv here in town at the DAS Auto Shipper warehouse because we are preparing for a new mission in Iraq and I don’t want to keep this atv. It is already sealed in a container along with all the documents ready to be delivered to the next owner. From the beginning you have to know that I need to close the deal using Amazon Payments because I have a contract with them for this transaction. So we will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated at Amazon Payments since 2011 and I have a purchase protection account. I supposed to ship the atv to other buyer but then he told me that he has a financial problem and is no longer interested. He already paid the shipping charges. So, the shipping is free. You will receive the atv in 2-3 days and you will have the chance to inspect it for 30 days. During the inspection period you can test the atv or go with it at your local mechanic for inspection. In case you won`t be satisfied, you can cancel the transaction and ship the atv back on my expense. If you’re really interested to purchase please send me your full name, full shipping address and your phone number for Amazon Payments representatives so they can register you as a potential buyer and after that they will contact you to explain the entire procedure of the transaction.
Thank you and stay safe. Lt. Alice Walker
I wanted to post this scam so hopefully someone will google the words Amazon Safepay and find this scam. It is September 29, 2016. Luckily we did not fall for it, yet honestly we really could have if it were not for this site andothers we found. So thank you for saving us, and I am so very sorry for those that were not as lucky. Do not feel badly, these people are skilled at their scam.
First of all you need to make the payment to Amazon Safepay, the funds will be placed on hold into their account. Then the shipping will start and the car will arrive at your location in max 48hrs. So if you wanna purchase my car, just get back to me with your full name, full shipping address and phone # and Amazon will send you the invoice. There you will find all the steps you need to follow in order to make the payment.

We got the same scam from a “so called” Paige cooper. We text the phone number on Craigslist and they replied back with a text saying that we needed to respond via email…that he had listed the truck for his sister.
The “sister” emailed back saying she was in the military stationed in Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Alaska. Said the vehicle was with her and she could ship it to us. Here’s the 1st email…

Hi,
First may I say, I am so thankful to hear from you. The 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4×4 is in a good condition, no scratches, no damages, never been implicated in any accidents, no problems at the engine, runs very well. Have 119,784 miles, 5.2L (318) MPI V8 MAGNUM ENGINE and automatic transmission. Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Power Brakes and much more. The truck is titled to me & has a clean title history.
The Dodge belonged to my husband, he loved very much and took very good care of it… but, he passed away 2 months ago in a car accident…brings me bad memories and now I have decided to sell it.. The final price is $1,700.00. I don’t want to make a business out of this and also I’m trying to sell it quickly, before 18th of this month when I’m leaving to Syria with the U.S. Convoy for 1 year contract, so please try to understand my situation.
P.S: I’ve attached some pictures.
SSgt. Paige Cooper
Never mentions anything about being in Alaska at this point…I told her I had the money and would like to come see the vehicle, then I get this…

Hi again,
Thank you very much for getting back to me but I would like to clarify some things first. For the next 2 weeks I will be stationed in Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Alaska, making final preparations for deployment. The vehicle is here with me and you get free delivery, by a military carrier with full support from our Logistics Department. It will take 3 days until the trailer will deliver the vehicle to your home address with all the papers. I will use Amazon Payments in this transaction for our protection. If you are not aware of this program, you should know that it will allow you to test drive and inspect the vehicle before committing to buy it. The inspection period will be set to 5 days and I think is enough for you to make a decision about the vehicle. If you won`t like my vehicle you notify Amazon and you send it back on my expense. But I assure you it won’t be the case. If you want to continue the purchase, please reply with your full name, delivery address and phone number so I can start the transaction with Amazon and ask them to send you the terms of this transaction. (with no further obligation or fees).
Now she’s telling us she’s in Alaska…I asked for a way to actually speak to her and she sent this…

We are in the final stage of our training and I’m restricted from leaving the unit’s facility under any purpose or call whenever I want. We have to stick to email for now. Hope you will understand. Right now Amazon is my only option. If you agree, please give me the requested info (full name, shipping address and phone #). Thank you
THIS JUST SUCKS!!!!! There should be a way to catch these people!
The scammers are alive and well … thanks for your article! It’s november 2016, and we just found this while my son and I were trying to figure out if the local craigslist ad (in boise idaho) was legit. When the response was for a car in mobile alabama my parental “if it’s too good to be true” radar kicked up something fierce. I didn’t want to be a complete killjoy, so we followed it up with some research.
And, of course, it’s a scam…
And for those who come after (and find this via the almighty google) … here’s the text of our exchange:
Hello,
My name is Alice, thanks for your interest regarding my 2000 Acura TL. It has 78,247 miles on it, auto transmission, 3.2L,V6 engine. The car is in mint condition, never involved in any accidents , I have a clear title for it under my name. If you are interested, it’s still available for sale and the price, as stated in the ad, is 500.00.
I am selling it at this price because this was my daughter’s car who passed away three months ago due to cancer. The car brings me a lot of memories that make me suffer and this is the reason for what I want to sell it as soon as possible. I know she would never have sold her stuff but for the past months the car has been packed and no one to use it. Due to my job I’m away and I’ve decided to make this deal through Amazon Auto Sales, so if you want to move forward please let me know so I can explain you how amazon works.
Let me know if you are still interested
********************
Hi again !
The car is stored with all the documents in Mobile Alabama at their storage facility, sealed and ready for delivery. Unfortunately, I can’t close this transaction personally due to the nature of my job, I am in the United States Army serves as a CBRN Specialist (74D). I am currently deployed won’t be back till March. We are not allowed to make or receive calls often for security reasons but we have internet access and that is our major means of communication to the outside world.
Like I said the transaction will be made through Amazon. You will have 5 days for inspection. During at this time Amazon will keep safe the money into a trust account. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the car before decide to buy it. If you are satisfied with the car and you’ve decided to keep it, you’ll inform Amazon and they will release the money to me. If the car is not as advertised and decide not to keep it Amazon will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back the car will be my concern. But I don’t think that this will be necessary because the car is like in the pictures and how I described it. You will receive the car with all the necessary papers notarized to pass on your name (clear title, bill of sale, user’s manual, insurance etc).
If you are interested, please include in the next email your contact information for Amazon like full name, full delivery address and phone number, so we can start the procedure.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
I’m so glad I found this site. I have been communicating with a woman who goes by the name Laura 39 selling a Toyota Avalon 2005 75k miles giving the same story about her daughter passed away three months ago from cancer and the car brought to many memories so she was selling it for 1,500. I have saved every email that we have sent to one another. She was also in the military as a CBRN specialist (74D). It’s really sad that people like that prey on others.
Hi ,
I am glad you are one of the people interested in buying my car. It is a 2006 Honda Accord EX has 99,000 mileage, Automatic Transmission. It is in perfect condition, no need for additional repairs, no scratches, dings, rust, special marks whatsoever. The interior looks great. It runs like new and all services are up to date. Also, I need to mention that it was never involved in any accidents, pets free. The price is $1,800 . Because of my divorce settlement, I own this car and I don`t need it because I have another car so I’m trying to get rid of it as soon as possible. I got a new job and moved to Omaha, NE for a new start. The title is legally under my name, clear and free of any liens or loans.
My presence is not necessary because I prearranged the deal with Amazon. The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 3 days. You will have 5 days to try out and if by any reason you find something you don’t like about it you can send it back on my expense. If you are interested in knowing more info about how the whole process works, I can ask Amazon to send you an email with more information on how to purchase it. Amazon will contact you shortly after they have the details with all the information that you need to complete this deal and you will also have proof that I am covered by them and a legitimate seller.
If you want to complete the purchase please send me your; Full Name and Shipping Address including(street, city, state, zip code) and phone number and I will notify Amazon that you are selected as my buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
I will send all photos in the next email.
Thank you,

This scam is being used in Australia as well. A 2005 Australian Winnebago Motorhome is being offered for A$28,500 (about 40% of its fair price). All the motorhoem details are correct. They have been ‘lifted’from a genuine for sale advert somewhere else. As usual the vendor is thousands of miles away. In this case said to be in London. The motorhoem was adverised as being in East Bendigo. But later information has it in Adelaide – held by a car dealer who has been contacted sveral times, is aware it is a scam, and they do not hold teh motorhome. Also as usual a ‘depsoit’must be paid so teh motorhoem can be ‘shipped’to teh buyer. The deposit is to be held in escrow (not a word we use in Australia). So be careful. The for sale advert looked OK. It was in a printed newspaper. And had a phone number.
This scam is being used in Australia as well. A 2005 Australian Winnebago Motorhome is being offered for A$28,500 (about 40% of its fair price). All the motorhome details are correct. They have been ‘lifted’from a genuine for sale advert somewhere else. As usual the vendor is thousands of miles away. In this case said to be in London. The motorhome was advertised as being in East Bendigo. But later information has it in Adelaide – held by a car dealer who has been contacted several times, is aware it is a scam, and they do not hold the motorhome. Also as usual a ‘deposit’must be paid so the motorhome can be ‘shipped’to the buyer. The deposit is to be held in escrow (not a word we use in Australia). So be careful. The for sale advert looked OK. It was in a printed newspaper. And had a phone number.
This has recently jst happen to me this morning,, plse be aware its still going on! Thet are getting smarter,if u cnt identify the person its usually a scam.
Now they are asking you to buy Amazon Gift cards and to send them the bar codes and the scratch off numbers.Any fool should know that is all they need to cash in on the gift cards.Vile vipers are what these scumbags are and need to have the scams turn on them!
This is on a truck deal.
I was a potential victim to this sleazebag using carsforsale.com but thanks to checking with Amazon (who confirmed it was a bogus deal) and THIS ARTICLE I dodged a rip off. Caveat Emptor.
Hello Danny,
My 1991 Toyota Pickup Deluxe, is still for sale. This truck is in great shape. I’m the original owner. It has no damage, no scratches, dents or hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn’t been involved in any accident…Has only 120,000 miles, its 5 speed manual, with an 22R 2.4’Liter 4 cylinders engine, 4wd, burgundy exterior and gray interior. I have a clear title, without liens or loans on it, under my name. I am selling it at this final price $2,100 because my husband died 1 month ago and it brings me bad memories and that’s the reason I want to sell it a.s.a.p. I want to use amazon services for the safety of both of us so if you’re interested in purchasing this truck, I can notify Amazon that you are selected as my possible buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
Thank you,
Christine Waren
On Fri, Jan 27, 2017 at 8:28 AM,
This is the first e-mail I got for a 91 Toyota pickup on Craigslist in Jonesboro,AR
Notice the correct spelling and grammar. They are getting good.
Now here is the second email.
Hi again Danny, how are you doing today?
As I have told you in previous email my husband died recently. I had to move out and now I am living with my parents in Rapid City, SD. At the moment they are the only ones I can rely on. The truck is at the shipping company sealed and ready for the shipping.
The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 1-3 days.
Once you will get the vehicle you will have 5 days to try it out prior to making any purchase.
In the case that you feel that the truck is not suitable, you can just return it all fees being on my expense. When receiving it you will have as well all the documents including title, sale bill , full service records and more.
The title and the bill of sale will be notarized and signed by me
If you are interested in knowing more info about how it works, I can ask Amazon services to send you an email with more information on how to purchase it.
Please reply with your whole name, a delivery address including(street, city, state, zip code) and ph# and they will contact you right away.
As soon as I hear that from you I will initiate the transaction through them.
Sincerely,
Christine
Notice the bad grammar and spacing/punctuation. This threw flags up for me. We are eating on the response now will update soon.
Helen selling honda accord sob story about husband passing and asked to send name and address then amazon will contact me to about details. I said i needed to test drive car. no reply…
Mine was for a 2007 Chevy Suburban, 65K miles $3,055, just divorced and relocating to Utah. ahhhh would have been so nice, but it was clearly “too good to be true.
Hi Andrea,
I am glad to see you have a high interest in my Chevy,
Here you have pictures,
As I told you in my first email, I recently got divorced. I got a new job and moved to Logan, UT for a new start. The car is already at the shipping company sealed and ready for the shipping. The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 1-3 days. Due to the fact that this is a large transaction I would like it be handled by Amazon which allow you to get the car first, benefit of 5 days inspection period and then I will get the payment. SO…ONLY AFTER you receive the car and agree to keep it, you will give me the money. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can physically see the vehicle before committing to buy and to eliminate any concerns. I need to know if you are still interested, so I can ask Amazon to send you the details. They will contact you shortly after they have the details with all the confirmation that you need to complete this deal and you will also have proof that I am covered by them and a legitimate seller.
If you would like to receive the email from Amazon will all the transaction information please reply with your full name, shipping address and phone # and they will contact you with more information about this deal…..
Even got a photo of “her and her children” which is of course a stolen picture
=(
Hi guys, thanks for this blog. I would have lost my money. This is the email I received. I am so gullible, Ha!!! Almost fell for his trap. It all happened this morning. This is the email I received.
Hi ,
Please take a few moments and read my email carefully, I know it is long, but I will explain all the details about the car and the transaction. At the moment I’m stationed in Joint Base Andrews, Maryland making final preparations before deploying to Afghanistan with the U.S. Convoy.
The car is already at our Military Logistic Department at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, crated and ready to go. The Logistic Department will deliver the car to your home. The shipping is free for you. Since the car is in a military base, with no access you can not go there and take it, only the Logistic Department can deliver it, because it is in their custody. Shipping will take 4 business days to the destination. All documents you need for ownership, manuals and bill of sale will be provided along with the car.
For the payment I would like to use Amazon Payments as a third party. They will keep your money into a protection account until you get the car and will release it to me after inspection period is over and you agree to keep it. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the car before committing to buy and to eliminate any concerns you will have 15 days to inspect it. If you decide not to keep it Amazon Payments will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back will be my concern. But I assure you won’t be the case. I think this is more than fair for both of us.
I’ll start the official procedure, and Amazon Payments will contact you about this you’ll receive important guidelines + instructions from them. You will be contacted by Amazon Payments by email. So just e-mail me and tell me if you received the payment invoice and how long will take till you proceed with the payment as Amazon Payments instructed you.
PLEASE NOTE!
If the car is not how I’ve described it, you have the unequivocal right to refuse acceptance of the car (return postage on my expense) and you are entitled to a full and complete refund of the car’s purchase price. It will be insured during transportation and will be delivered in front of your door.
Again I want to point out that because I am going to Afghanistan this sale is my top priority and I am looking after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible.
Hope to do business with you soon!
Thank you and God Bless!
Hallo,

Got hit with the scam….. different story. She had to divorce a cheating husband & move back to Topeka…. same deal Amazon Pay & SUV would be delivered. … As soon as I got this information I knew it had to be a scam.
Just thought I would check the internet to see if anybody else had the same thing happen. OMG… Too many. I am sorry for anyone who actually lost money to these blood sucking miscreants. If it sounds too good to be true…. It usually is.
I responded to an ad on Facebook marketplace for a 2007 Chevy tahoe. The response I got from the guy was to email some woman at [email protected] as it was her car. Red flag! So I indulged. Sent email. Response as follows: “Hello there,
Thank you for contacting me about my 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ with 5.3L 8cyl Engine and 116,776 miles it’s automatic runs on gasoline. The suv is in great shape and in immaculate condition and I’m the original owner. It has no damage,or hidden defects. I have a clear title, under my name. The price is $2,500. I’m selling it because my husband died 1 month ago (he had a heart attack) and it brings me bad memories so that’s the reason I want to sell it asap. My daughter and I decided to sell the house and so we moved with my parents in Lawrence, KS trying to start a new life. I want to use Amazon’s Service for the safety of both of us so if you’re interested in purchasing the vehicle just email me with your full name, P.o. Box or address including the zip code and phone number, so I can notify Amazon’ that you are selected as my possible buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
Thank you,
Amber R. Brown”
I did a quick Google search. Came up on your blog. I’m an Amazon prime member, I have never seen anything about buying cars on Amazon. But then again, I don’t view amazon as a car buying place. Needless to say, I’m not going any further. I’d rather see the car in person before I dish out money.
Oh my! Thank you for posting this!
I too almost fell for this to almost the same email.
Started off with a car for free on the Facebook marketplace, which I then asked the basics how many miles, how much…
I then received a msg back from Tracy with
Hi thanks for your interest. My mom is the first owner 10 Toyota Camry….price $2500, no trades Send an email at [email protected] and she wwill send you back more details/pictures
I then sent email and received the following
Hello there,

Thank you,
Note…. I dislike this type of bottom feeders
Wow!! This email you got from a scammer is nearly identical to the one I got regarding an RV!!!
I’m so glad I decided to google this Amazon payment business!! It didn’t sound right at all!!! These criminals belong in Leavenworth alright!!
I saw the ad on Facebook Marketplace & responded. Her reply on FB was that she preferred to communicate via email and to give her my email so she could contact me. Since then (just 2 days ago, 9/15/18) Facebook has removed her parts of the message and replaced it with this: “This message has been temporarily removed because the sender’s account requires verification.”
The email is also a Comcast hosted email like a few I read above. It’s [email protected].
Along with 23 clear photos, she sent me this email:
“Hello there,
Thank you for contacting me about my 2004 Four Winds Five Thousand RV with leveling jacks included and 30-41 gallons of water capacity, sleeps 4. The camper is in great shape & immaculate condition and I’m the original owner. It has no damage,or hidden defects. I have a clear title, under my name. The price is firm, $2,500. This camper is in great shape and everything functions as it should. We have used it a dozen times and have had no issues with it. I’m selling it because my husband died 1 month ago (he had a heart attack) and it brings me bad memories so that’s the reason I want to sell it asap. My daughter and I decided to sell the house and so we moved with my parents in Fort Leavenworth , KS trying to start a new life. I want to use Amazon’s Service for the safety of both of us so if you’re interested in purchasing the camper just email me with your full name, P.o. Box or address including the zip code and phone number, so I can notify Amazon that you are selected as my possible buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.

Whew. My spidey sense went up when I saw the email. Mine was Tiffany Miller selling a 2006 Nissan Frontier with 89K miles for $2550. I found her ad on craigslist in Atlanta. She said the car was located on Fort Carson Army Base in Colorado and that she was being sent overseas and had to sell the car by June 15th. She said that she didnt want to pay for insurance and storage fees. She said the transaction would be handled by amazon and that she wouldn’t receive any money until I was satisfied with the vehicle. She also had a link that showed pictures of this nissan frontier that looked shiny and in immaculate condition. I sent “her” back an email saying good news, my brother is stationed there and said that he would be happy to take a look at the vehicle for me and save us both the hassle. Didn’t get a response after that. Wow. Scammers are everywhere.
That’s the exact same email I got!! The exact same except it was a different vehicle for 2,700! I almost fell for it until I looked it up myself wow !!!
In August 2017 this scam continues.
I asked a question on a car on carsforsale.com. Here is the response back.

The price of the car is low as I need to sell it until 10th September, when I’ll be leaving with my unit Brigade Combat Team back to South Korea replacing the troops scheduled to come home. It is located at Amazon warehouse in Seattle, WA. The title is clean and free of any loans or liens! I can send you more pictures if you want.

They are sneaky!!
On Friday I saw an ad for a Honda pilot for sale at a ridiculously low price. It was posted on the Facebook Marketplace so I clicked on the poster’s profile and it seemed legit. I contacted the man and he replied by saying it was his mother’s car and to please email her at [email protected].
I did that and this morning when I got back to work I found this email from her:
Hello there,

I told her no thanks, this doesn’t seem real to me and she/he got offended. lol
I then went to the ad poster’s profile and sent him a private message asking him if he was aware that his profile is being used for a scam. It looked like I have never messaged with him before. As if it was a totally different page. I sent him screenshots letting him know. Hopefully he sees it and changes his password or something.
Thanks Jim. I almost got scammed on a 2009 Nissan maxims that I absolutely loved. But kept thinking in the back of my head that this must be a scam. Her email was [email protected]
A guy just tried to scam me with some used camera gear with http://amazon.webcheckouts.com
Watch out for this site!
this is another scam from autoscout24

I am the seller of the Skoda Superb. I am very glad that you are interested to buy my car.
The car is still there, full of history service, very good condition and all in perfect condition, see the interior and exterior view great, no accidents. I had to move because of the decision of my company to Belfast / Northern Ireland. I have already received a new car from the company and I need here no left-handed. In addition, there are many things that now have priority, so this car needs to go. The price would be 7.000 euros.
Due to the fact that I am very busy with my work and I do not stay too much at home, we left the car to an Escrow Company (trust company) so that it can be delivered to the new owner. If you are interested, I need your delivery address, so I can calculate shipping (I agree to pay the transportation costs from 50 to 50, if that is suitable for you).
I am so glad I decided to look this up! I almost got, GOT! lol everything you posted was almost identical to what I was given. Smh. The same thing that made you think twice is the same reason for me. If it’s too true to be good…. then it probably is! Thank you!

This is the latest SCAM link, the lady with the so called husband who died almost got me TODAY. The story was IDENTICAL!!!
I just had the same thing happen to me a 2003 Nissan . She says she was in the military and her daughter just died from cancer !! I’m disgusted because I just recently had a family pass from cancer. I can’t bel it’s some people out here this heartless
Insist on seeing the vehicle before transferring a cent. The excuses for it not being available should send up the red flag!
I’m so glad that I searched on Google about this. The story I got was that this lady was being deployed and that her dad had died and was trying to get rid of a car.I sent my name and address but no money. So glad I found this article. My boyfriend had already said it sounded like a scam.
I was looking for a car on Craigslist and came across this ad about a 2000 Handa Accord for $500. I sent a text to the number 504- 233-8105. They text back saying that she couldn’t write where she was at and she had an emergency with her kids. She asked for my email address. I text it to her and said that I understood about the kids. So she sent me a long email with tons of pictures. Her name was Nichole Norseman she is 47. Her and her husband bought the car in 2001 it’s was there second car and kept it in the garage hardly used. It’s registered in her name has a clean title there’s nothing wrong with the car. The reason why she is selling it was because she was in a car accident and her husband died and she doesn’t have legs. The second email said she moved in her parents’ house in Hamilton, Montana. She said she research Amazon to help her sell her car. Said she signed up for the protection program offered by Amazon and wanted to close the deal through them. Amazon is the bed platform for transportation, so we can both be protected and insured. (Sound Good) The sale is strictly run through the federal government (Red Flag). The vehicle is in Amazon custody in the Hamilton, Montana at their shipping company ready to be shipped with all the documents. The shipping will be free because her husband worked for the US army. She wanted my full name, shipping address and phone number. So Amazon Payments will contact me with all the information. Before the shipping starts I needed to send a payment guarantee to Amazon Payment Company. She said I will not be sending her money but putting the money in an Amazon Payment trust account. If I wasn’t satisfied the company reimburse my deposit in 48 hours. After I receive the vehicle with all the paperwork I have five days inspection period to drive and inspect the condition of the car. I could even take it to a local dealership for inspection. If I didn’t want the vehicle Amazon Payments will pick it up for free. If I keep the car Amazon will than release the money to her. Amazon Payments holds the money until I make my decision. She said using Amazon is a guarantee that I would not disappear with her car. And she asked for my information again, not any bank information. I talk it over with my husband and he felt it was a good idea so I email her my information. Afterward I felt like something was not right. I told my husband “it sounds too good to be true”. So I look up Amazon Payments and found this blog and couldn’t believe what I was reading. I feel bad that I sent her my information, but I’m glad and thankful that I came across this article. She didn’t get my money. Thank you for this information and to everyone who posted comments about their experience. This happened April 10, 2018
Same story here. Found an atv on Craigslist. So glad I found this post when I googled how does Amazon Pay work. Feel stupid I believed the guy selling the vehicle as I usually don’t trust anyone. Trust only the adage, “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t.”
Almost got me. Thanks for this blog. My scammer was trying to sell me a 1958 Chevy Impala. Sweet looking classic for only 2500 bucks. I thought it was a typo cause it should sell for 25,000. So look out for 1st Lt. Kathy Lloyd. The car was first listed as being in Maine , but when I contacted her the car was in some funky town in Missouri. It was her dads car too many painful memories to look at since he just died after a long bout with cancer. Sent may condolences and asked if she had any objection for a third party to come and inspect it. Of course the car was already to ship cause another buyer backed out cause he couldnt get the loan from his bank. My mom is in banking and she said the bank would approve a loan like that cause they just hold the title till its paid off. Especially on a car of that value. Also shes about to be deployed on a super secret squirrel mission in Afghanistan, so I better hurry and do this deal before someone else gets it. Oh Yeah, she said she would pay for shipping as well. Which is another flag cause its close to a thousand to ship out here in west texas, so that means her end would go down to about 1500 by selling the car. Now i know 1st Lt.s arent the smartest in the world, but that just seemed waaaay to dumb to me. LMAO , and rolling on the floor. Then came the rap about Amazon protection and all that tripe. Helloooo McFly, your not gonna get me like that today. Maybe on another day, but just not today. Its so despicable that they use our military folks good name to hide behind to do their dirty deeds. Fuckin get a job you dirty parasite! Anyways look out folks, They have no heart and dont care who they scam. Even 5 bucks is a win for them. Good Luck out there, Im forever greatfull for this blog. Peace be with you, Zack-
Almost JUST fell for this scam today until finding this blog. It is for a souped up golf cart for 1,000. Husband died of a heart attack a year ago and the golf cart brings her bad memories and her and her daughter moved in with her parents in Lawrence KS so they want to use Amazon payments to protect themselves.
I almost fell for this scam too, except I emailed about two cars, an Acura 2005 TL for $1000 and a Honda Accord 2010 for $2000. When I got emails from both of them, their stories were exactly alike. Their son–her husband were killed in a bike accident. They both had bad memories because of it and needed to sell it. That was a good thing I received that 2nd email with the exact sentence because I may have fell for it. Be careful out there. The cars look beautiful but the sellers are ugly!!!
It’s August 9, 2018 and they’re still at it!! I got Rachel Hurley…whose husband died (a month ago) and she wanted to get rid of the car because of the memories. I felt icky about it because of the price but did write back. I searched the name and did find one in Hurst TX…very near where I live. So when she wrote back about Amazon payment and living in Lawrence, KS… I did some more checking. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THESE FRAUDS! I think I will f—- with her a little more before doing anything else.
I wish i would of look this up earlier but i was excited and anxious to get this vehicle and ended up sending $500.00.But,then they wanted $500.00 more for the insurance and thought to myself i should look into it. Luckily i did because after seeing and reading this article its the same person but from Alabama supposely going by the name Fiona Reynolds.I pray and this scammer gets whats coming to them and definitely do your research before anything.I learned my lesson and Thank You for this article.
OMG! Fool me once… I almost got snagged too!
My BIG question is now that I emailed this “person” using my gmail acct and “liked” the original post I saw on Facebook, did I make myself vulnerable to getting either account hacked? I did not give them all my personal info as requested via email, but a warm body behind a public profile is all scammers need these days!
Total scammer. Mine was a divorce from ND…….all the exact same verbiage as everyone else’s posts!! I called the seller out on their scam and they freaked! Not a big surprise considering the lying, scamming source!
If it’s too good to be true, it is because it’s a SCAM!!
So thankful that I tend to research most things. Looking for a used vehicle and found one that was absolutely beautiful.
Hello there,
Thank you for contacting me about my 2011 GMC Acadia SLT with 3.6L V6 engine and 115,130 miles it’s automatic runs on gasoline. The vehicle is in great shape & immaculate condition and I’m the original owner. It has no damage,or hidden defects.I have a clear title, under my name. The price is firm, $2,500. I’m selling it because my husband died 1 month ago (he had a heart attack) and it brings me sad memories so that’s the reason I want to sell it asap. My daughter and I decided to sell the house and so we moved with my parents in Fort Leavenworth ( Kansas ) trying to start a new life. I want to use Amazon’s Service for the safety of both of us so if you’re interested in purchasing the vehicle just email me with your full name, P.o. Box or address including the zip code and phone number, so I can notify Amazon that you are selected as my possible buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
After I told “her” that I was sorry for her loss, I got the next email.
Hello again,
Thank you for your kind words and support, I appreciate as I have been through a difficult period in my life after my husband passed away and I`m still struggling to overcome this painful situation.I`m located in Fort Leavenworth, KS . (the vehicle is here with me) right now because I got a new job here, the thing is i`m very busy and I don`t have time to stay and meet with all my potential buyers, that is why I gave to a shipping company that will ship it to the next owner(on my cost). I will make the deal only through Amazon. Using this service you will get a 5 days testing period after delivery. During that 5 days testing period I will not be getting any money. The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 1-4 days.
Once you will get the vehicle you will have 5 days to try it out prior to making any purchase.
In the case that you feel that the vehicle is not suitable, you can just return it, all fees being on my expense.
When receiving it you will have as well all the documents, including title, bill of sale , 2 sets of keys, full service records and more. The title and the bill of sale will be notarized and signed by me. I need to know if you are interested in buying it so I can ask Amazon to send you the details on how this works. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for Amazon( full name, full address ) so we can get things started.
Needless to say, I informed her that I was not interested and that I hoped God changed their hearts.
Thank you so much for clearing this up for me. I was about to throw away a lot of money on this scam.
You just saved 2 of my granddaughters 2200.00, thank you
You saved my $2500.00, thank you! Same situation with used car in military person.
Feb 2019 and it is still happening , I replied to an add on Facebook Marketplace that appeared to be local to me within a few kilometers ; posting this so everyone can see this so here is the reply back from “the seller”

Hello,
Well, let me just jump right into it.I just got divorced and the camper was awarded to me in our divorce.I have a low price ($2,700) because I don’t want it, and I’m looking to sell it within the next days ideally.
I have a deployment coming up and would prefer to have my mother who is taking care of my children, have the cash instead.
Now, a few words about this 1994 Chinook Concourse. It’s Class B+, has 21ft(6.4m), V8 engine, Gasoline, 54,610 kms used just to cruise, automatic transmission. The camper is in perfect condition, never involved in any accident, with no body damage or rust and it runs great. Clean comfortable interior with no stains. The camper’s condition is excellent. And I am attaching a bunch of photos, so you can see the overall condition.
If you decide to buy it, you’ll receive all the papers, a registration certificate, bill of sale, owner manual, 3 keys, and a buy-sell contract already signed by me.
Because I’m getting ready for my deployment and I can’t do this in person, I have arranged a deal with Amazon. If you want to buy it, I will need your full name, address and phone number, to send them over to Amazon and they will help you complete the buy. (Price remains the same, $2700 even through Amazon. There are no extra of hidden fees!)
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello everyone
It is now almost April 2019 and it is going around. A facebook post listed an RV for sale in the local area. When messaged about it the poster informed us that the post was actually for their aunt and provided an e-mail address on how to contact her. We contacted the “seller” and then researched all information in regards to the seller that was provided in the email but nothing came up. The “aunt” is located approximately 3000km from the original facebook posters location. Clue #1: the seller does use the internet because they are e-mailing and they do not appear to be illiterate to use facebook — so why did they need their “nephew” to post it? Clue#2: they might be starting to sound desperate right off the get-go and want address and name information right away to start the process.
All the details provided do make it sound legit.
Here is the complete conversation that we had so far:

Hi again,
As I’ve told you in my first e-mail, I’m in the Royal Canadian Air Force with my medical team and right now and due to my last part of training, which is the most important, I am not allowed to get out of the unit or call whenever I want.
The reason I’m selling this vehicle way below market value is because I don’t have time for negotiations and I need the money before I’m deployed to another base. As I’m unable to make the transaction in person, I have prearranged the deal with Amazon.
The deal includes free delivery because as you may know we can ship a car/bike/etc from home to the base and back for free.
The transaction through Amazon offers you the chance to test and inspect the vehicle for 5 days without a payment to the seller. You will send the payment to Amazon and they will hold the funds until you receive and inspect the vehicle and decide to whether you want keep it or not. If by any reason you find something you don’t like about it, you can send the vehicle back on my expense and you will receive a full refund of your money from Amazon.
I need to know if you are interested so I can ask Amazon to send you the details on this deal. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for Amazon (full name, shipping address and phone number), so we can move forward with this transaction.
Thank you

Hello,
Well, let me just jump right into it.I just got divorced and the camper was awarded to me in our divorce.I have a low price ($2,700) because I don’t want it, and I’m looking to sell it within the next days ideally.
I have a deployment coming up and would prefer to have my mother who is taking care of my children, have the cash instead. The vehicle is still in Canada at a warehouse in Dundurn, SK at approximately 15 km away from the base where I’m located, (CFB Dundurn) and it’s ready to be delivered to its buyer with all the documents.
Now, a few words about this 1997 Chinook Concourse. It’s Class B, has 23ft(7.0m), V8 engine, Gasoline, 47,006 kms used just to cruise, automatic transmission, and new tires. The vehicle is in perfect condition, never involved in any accident, with no body damage or rust and it runs great. Clean comfortable interior with no stains. The vehicle’s condition is excellent. And I am attaching a bunch of photos, so you can see the overall condition.

Good day, My name is Andrew. I was wondering if my wife and i can talk to you more about the Rv u have for sale? I got your email from the other person helping sell it.
Thank you
another addition: the post on facebook was up one day and my husband saw it… showed it to me and we decided to think about it. Then it was removed. We thought that it must have been a good purchase for someone and it went fast. After a few days it was back up again and that’s when we started the process of communication as detailed in the previous post.
March 2019 – and now preying on the handicapped and disabled.
Thanks to all of you for getting the word out –
Here’s the reply I got when looking for a handicapped van to take my disabled son to his activities and appts, on Shopok.com:

Hi,
I’ve just seen your email regarding the 2012 VPG MV-1 DX Mobility Handicap . The vehicle is still for sale. Engine 4.6 liter Gas, Power in-floor ramp (short deployment with 1:4.4 slope; long deployment with 1:6 slope), Radio with Navigation, Wheelchair Occupant Restraint system with tie downs, Factory Manual ramp retraction kit, Factory Tire inflation kit, 2 keys and fobs, User Manual, no mechanical issues, no scratches or dents, and it has never been involved in any kind of accidents. Has 55,500 miles, its automatic. The paint are in excellent condition. Engine starts easily and runs perfectly. The vehicle belonged to my father who passed away this year after a long bout with cancer and brings me a lot of memories that make me suffer and this is the reason for what I want to sell it as soon as possible. It has a clear title, no accidents, no problems whatsoever, also I was named executor in his will so there won’t be any legal problems regarding the sale of the car. I am asking $3,000 for it, not negotiable. I am in the Air Force and we are preparing for a new mission so I hope that I would find a serious buyer in a few days. If you have any other questions, or need more info and pics, please free to ask.
Sincerely,
Lt. Kathy J. Lloyd
I’m so glad I ran across this article. I was checking on a 5th wheel trailer that was too good to be true–and, sadly, it is. Here is the response letter I got back after inquiring about it:
“Hi, I’m serving in Miami MEPS, FL but soon our unit will be sent back oversea to replace and help the troops scheduled to come home, so I don’t need it anymore at this time. This is the reason why I left the RV stored at the Amazon Payments Warehouse Center ready for the shipping. I have signed a contract with Amazon Payments to take care of the selling on my behalf.
The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 3-5 days, depending on the exact location. You will have 5 days to try out prior to making any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don’t like about it you can send it back at my expense. If you are interested in knowing more info about how it works, I can ask Amazon Payments to send you an email with more information on how to purchase it. Amazon Payments will contact you shortly after they have the details with all the confirmation that you need to complete this deal and you will also have proof that I am covered by them and a legitimate seller. If you would like to receive the email from Amazon Payments with all the transaction information please reply with your full name, shipping address and phone # and they will contact you right away.

Thank you for this article. I really felt like this was a scam. I did reply to this email asking if I could see it in person and I’m waiting back on a reply.
I want to add my experience here. Mine is similar, but very different in that as of now, I’ve received nothing through any Amazon-type link for payment.
I originally had a Facebook ad pop up in a feed for a local eastern oregon FB group I am a member of.
I responded to the FB profile of the person who posted the ad.
She is a real person. I Googled her and now I have messaged her concerning this bcs I believe her account was hacked and used to do this.
I messaged the seller, the FB person, and she responded by asking for my email bcs she was at work.
I then receive a message from a totally different person.
This was the first email from this person I received:
“Hello
It’s me again.Sorry for my delay. Are u still interested in buying my 2007 Honda Accord EXL?
Please mail me back soon!Thank you and I’ll wait your answer.
Paula C. Phillips”
I then heard back from them again with this text in the message:
“Hello there,
My car is in great shape & immaculate condition and I’m the original owner.2007 HONDA ACCORD EXL fwd with 2.4L 4-cylinder engine and 83.477k miles it’s automatic runs on gasoline.I have a clear title and the price is firm, $1,300. The car it brings me sad memories so that’s the reason I want to sell it asap. After my husband died 1 month ago (he had a heart attack), my daughter and I decided to moved with my parents in Lawrence KS trying to start a new life.I want to use Amazon’s Service for the safety of both of us so if you’re interested in purchasing the car just email me with your full name, P.o. Box or address including the zip code and phone number, so I can notify Amazon that you are selected as my possible buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
have a good one”
The message contained the exact same photos as the FB ad, with a few more.
When I Google this persona, search the obits around the state etc., I come up with basically nothing.
I knew it was too good to be true. I am very skeptical.
Now this will be interesting what I receive next as a reply.
But now it seems they are using Facebook.
BTW, the original FB ad? It disappeared IMMEDIATELY after I got the message from the different Facebook person.
And that is why I really was wierded out.
I have not yet been asked for any money.
We shall see.
But clearly, this is a variation of this scam you reported on.
Thank you for writing about this
Tammy: This is the EXACT thing that happened to me only with a camping trailer. The ad disappeared, the words in each of your contacts are the exact words that came to me; husband died a month ago, sad thoughts related to camper, she and daughter moved to Kansas with parents, camper in excellent condition–she was the first and only owner!! (I’m suspecting these people don’t own any of these things they’re attempting to sell–but rather just take pictures of other peoples property.) Then, I received a “beautiful,” professional looking invoice from “Amazon” explaining the details of the transaction. I just needed to get two $500 money cards from any store, ie, CVS, Walmart, etc, and call the numbers in to my seller. The trailer was in a warehouse, wrapped and ready to ship to my house for a 5 day inspection period. If I did not like it, it would be picked up and shipped back to the seller (in Kansas, of course) at her expense! Fortunately for me, I have a skeptical son-n-law that did some web-site digging and found this site!! Thank God!! Saved me from doing something stupid and losing money to a professional Con artist (apparently a group of Con artists.) I have no doubt these people don’t even know where Kansas is. Why they don’t move to one of the other states and change their stories is a bit bewildering. They’ve probably never heard of Toto either! 🙂 So sad that there are so many people like this in the world. I have posted a SCAM ALERT on my Facebook page. Everyone here that knows more about computers than I do, please post an alert somewhere where more people will see it.
Very similar scams going on up here in Canada. On facebook marketplace I saw a nice looking 1998 Minnie Winnie Rv, perfect shape, low mileage etc. for only $2800. Got a messenger note from a guy telling me to contact a Erin Bromont. Her story, recently divorced and being deployed overseas with the air force. She didn’t have time to sell it, needed the money for her mother to take care of her kids and sent me the Amazon payment info. Nice story, I asked to see the RV right away as I had good old cash and would never buy something like this without seeing it. I got a ton of pictures, guarantees that the vehicle registration was clear and to forward my info to the Amazon link. To me this stank worse than a skunk, so I called Amazon and they told me of the scam. It gets better. This same RV has appeared twice more on facebook from different sellers, once as a 1999 and then yesterday as a 2002 model, but price up to $5600 which is still very good for something like this. They use the same pictures. When you go back to look at facebook the ad has disappeared and messenger says there is a problem with the account. I guess the deal looks so good that a ton of people reply and the ad gets pulled while they try to work the scam. I googled the email address [email protected] and this site came up with a few other scam stories. So some words to the wise, “Never buy a big ticket item without seeing it” and “If it looks to good to be true it is” so run for the hills and don’t be sucked in by these low life’s. I talked to a policeman friend of mine and he says this kind of fraud happens all the time. It’s buyer beware. There must be a way that the cops can get these crooks. Does anybody have Matlock’s phone number 🙂
unfortunately I ended up falling in this blow of a 2003 Nissan Murano for 1,000 claiming that I was selling at this price because it was from her daughter and she died of cancer, how do I recover my money from the amazon ???
They are now on offer up selling a 2003 jeep for$1000. She moved to Montana after her husband died of cancer. Car is in Montana at Amazon Logistics Worldwide Inc.
Hi, Its August 14th and I received the following from an ad on Facebook. Original message said it was a sale for his daughter (spelled name Rebekka). She spelled it differently…
these creeps just wont stop! Thank you all for posting and creating awareness!!

Now, a few words about this 2012 Jayco Greyhawk 31DS. It’s class C, sleeps 7, 5.4L V8 Ford Triton engine, 25,436 kms used mostly to cruise, automatic transmission, Navigation System, Onan 4000W Generator, AC, water heater, shower, satellite radio, and many other features and options. Hello,
Hi,
I’ve just seen your email regarding the 2015 Keystone Denali 287RE. The trailer is still for sale. It is in very good condition and has been completely gone over. Everything is working as it should and this trailer is ready to go camping. 8,000LBS. All systems and appliances have been tested and I guarantee everything to be functioning properly. The interior of the trailer is in immaculate condition. The exterior is in unbelievable condition as well. This trailer has been used very little. It is smoke and pet free. The trailer belonged to my father who passed away this year after a long bout with cancer and brings me a lot of memories that make me suffer and this is the reason for what I want to sell it as soon as possible. It has a clear title, also I was named executor in his will so there won’t be any legal problems regarding the sale of the trailer. I am asking $5,000 not negotiable. Hi again,
I apologize for the delay, I’ve been very busy…Currently i am stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base from Knob Noster, Missouri and we are training for a new mission in Syria. 2 weeks ago i left the trailer at the Amazon Logistics warehouse in Kansas City, MO ready to be delivered to the next owner along with all the documents because i almost closed the deal with another person but he had a family emergency and finally gave up. Anyway he already paid and prepared shipping for him as he was out of state so the trailer can be delivered for free now in the United States. I am member of Amazon Logistics since 2013 and i will make the deal through their vehicle purchase protection program because this way they can ship for free the trailer. Amazon Logistics offer 30 days inspection period for the buyer. So you will receive the trailer in a few days and you will have the chance to test and inspect it for 30 days. In case you won`t be satisfied, you can cancel the deal and ship the trailer back on my expense. I have to fill out a form on Amazon Logistics and i need your full name, full shipping address, your cell # and your email address so they can register you as my potential buyer for the trailer and after that they will contact you to explain the entire procedure of the deal. You’ll love the trailer, I can guarantee you that!
Thank you and stay safe,

Exactly the same emails, word-for-word from Nancy K. McCardle for a 1995 Winnebago Rialta for $1500 non-negotiable. This is November 24, 2019.
“Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel:
for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land,
because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.” (Hosea 4:1-2)
Let’s pray for these people to give up their sin, and let us all turn to the Lord for forgiveness. It’s easy to see when someone else does wrong against you, but each of us is personally accountable to God for wrongs we have done against Him. Thankfully, He is plenteous in pardon. “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:20-21)
This time it is Janice Vinson ([email protected]) selling a 2006 Leisure Travel Free Spirit for $14,000 on Abilene, TX Craigslist, but she has had throat surgery and the vehicle is located in Greensburg, IN. December 12, 2019.

Thank you! Saw an ad for an rv to be shipped thru amazon logistics. Air force Lt soon to be deployed in syria. Same basic dialogue. Sold my home a d am currently homeless til i find a new place. Decided an rv was what i wanted to call home. Saw the ad and was ready to go. What caught my eye was that she signed off with “Semper Fi, Lt Rosale Barton”. Im a vet. Marine corps. Semper Fi is our motto/saying/sign off. Never heard of an air force. Officer or enlisted man/woman using this. That alone made me dig deeper. And i found this article and readers feedback. Which just saved me from a big mistake as i would have been broke and perm homeless had i went thru with the supposed sale. Cant thank you all enuf :’)
Funny – I found the same exact trailer on a website, inquired about it and Nancy got back to me. Unreal.
